I am 6w along, and struggling to stay W30 compliant every.single.day! (I have completed 5 rounds before, and have never struggled before) Everyday I start the day ready to start Day 1, and I do pretty well until I get home from work (between 4-5) and the hunger that strikes is intense and nothing W30 appeals to me. I try to keep it semi-compliant (store bought plaintain chips, fruit snacks that only have fruit juice in them, etc.) but some days I just need to eat PB out of the jar with a spoon! You do what you can - my thought is if 90% of my day is Whole30, I am still doing loads better than I did my previous pregnancies!

So glad you're feeling better! Lots of love your way. First trimester was harder for me this time around, too. Hope this week treats you well. :)

Sorry, just saw your update. Like I said, I stopped part way this time because I just couldn't deal with the nausea with out some bread in the morning. This time around, the nausea hasn't left after the first trimester, so I still haven't gone back to doing W30 again, but I have tried to focus on eating more W30 approved meals for dinner when I'm feeling my best nausea-wise and incorporating as much fruits, veggies, and protein where I can in the rest of my meals. I think that alone is still a great start during pregnancy.

Definitely try to eat white and sweet potatoes. I'm inclined to really encourage you to finish since you are so close, but in candor, I tried to do another W30 when I was early in my first trimester this time and I just couldn't keep the nausea at bay. I tend to have pretty awful morning sickness, though, so that's a factor.

I think eating potatoes (both kinds) helps with the nausea some though, if you can stomach it. Have you read the stuff on the W30 website about doing a W30 while you're pregnant? Some of it may be helpful in deciding what to do. Even Melissa Hartwig has an article about relaxing if necessary while dealing with food aversions, etc. Here are a couple of links.

@shellio: I'm glad you're doing what you need to make it through! I'm frankly super impressed that you made it as far as you did while in early pregnancy! Nausea and aversion aside, the fatigue and general all consuming anxiety from those early weeks would derail me personally. I think you're an all star. :)

@shellio: I was doing my fifth whole30 when I got my BFP last July!! I tried to continue as long as I could and made it to day 28... but it was soooo hard! I didn't have nausea yet, but my food aversions were so bad. I would get queasy at the thought of anything green/foliage, detested bacon, chicken, sausage, most meats/proteins... so it was really hard to stay compliant. Eventually I gave up to eat a bowl of rice- bland and easy on the stomach. And I was actually glad I did. I needed calories at that point!
I'm glad you feel better having "cheated" lol I definitely couldn't have done a full W30 while pregnant. I still ate pretty healthy, but couldn't do that strict.
I do want to do another one this summer now that I'm post partum :)

Thanks so much, ladies. I was doing it to feel better and for a while, I did, but the past couple days I've just felt awful and want to eat what I'm craving (even if it doesn't make me feel better). I am giving up for now, tonight I had crackers and a bowl of cereal and feel so much better. I've done W30 twice before and never craved sugar so strongly, especially this far in. You all are right, for now I need to do whatever it takes to get by and I'll try again in the second trimester!

@mfa_lady: I was so afraid to do it while nursing, my supply was so tenuous anyway and I didn't want to risk decreasing it, good for you!

@knittylady: Thanks  still wish you were with me! I'm hopeful for my ultrasound next week, I didn't really have symptoms last time but I sure do this time. I'm not huge on potatoes which has made it challenging, I'm definitely eating more fruit than they recommend but it is probably the only carbs I've been getting.

Forget the no snacking rule and peanut butter rule and five yourself a break. You should still enjoy results (although given your current state of pregnancy it might not feel as great) while snacking more to feel satisfied. Pb and bananas is great, really sweet fruit like pineapple and mango, eat more nuts and seeds if you need, throw ghee on your proteins. SURVIVE! you're so close to done, I bet you could do it. You're amazing for doing this while preggo.

Likewise, if you feel yourself continuing to tank and feel like your quality of life is not as great, or getting really depressed just do you. Do what you need to do to feel like yourself. Don't feel guilty if it comes to that. You're still awesome.

I agree with @mfa_lady: If you can bear it, try to finish up with potatoes - they recently approved white potatoes! You could do baked and also make them into fries. That might get you through the next ten days?

Still so incredibly happy for you.

Totally fine to give yourself a break! The first trimester is no joke. But, I just finished a Whole30 and also understand that once you're 20 days in it feels SO CLOSE! So, if you do stick with it, try lots of potatoes and sweet potatoes for the carb craving and fruits when you feel like you need something sweet (grapes, berries, and clementines were my go-to).

I just did it while nursing my almost five month old, so I had to do lots of the above too in order to keep my supply up. We got your back whatever you decide!

So for me I've done it and loved it, but could not imagine doing if first trimester, I would be more successful in the 2nd. first I need carbs to keep me going and functioning (and not puking.) I'd stop and give it a go in a few weeks after the nausea goes away, it is survival mode right now!

@shellio: I've never done a whole 30 but I cannot imagine trying to do something like that in the first trimester! I would give yourself a break. Being pregnant doesn't mean you need to eat unhealthily but you also need to do what you gotta do to make it through the nausea...

I tried to start my day in the first tri with a greek yogurt and fruit.. i would inevitably puke after. I generally felt better when I started my day with a bagel with butter. It also meant I could eat a slightly healthier lunch. For me I couldn't avoid aversions/cravings without it making me feel sick.

I'm 20 days into my third Whole 30 and am having a tough time... I know some of you ladies have done it before and hoped for some encouragement. I think the main reason I'm having problems is that I'm 7 weeks pregnant and I want pizza, crackers and cereal so badly and am also craving sweets when I usually don't have a sweet tooth. I have only rarely had problems with nausea in previous pregnancies and don't want to use nausea as an excuse, although I've had some over the past couple of days. I feel like I am eating plenty but I don't feel amazing like I'm supposed to, all I feel is deprived :( Should I continue or just give myself a break?
