@brady80: We mostly stayed at/near our hotel because we were there for a destination wedding. We did go into Old San Juan for dinner one night. A couple of things - the nicer restaurants are NOT baby-friendly (we were first told we couldn't dine at one, and then told we had to leave if our baby cried...), and the only time I felt unsafe was walking back to our car through OSJ after dinner. As far as staying near our hotel, we had a great time - DD loved the ocean and the pool, so we spent most of our time in the water.

@septca: we are going to PR. We've been there before but it will be my parents first time. Did you take your daughter to el yunque? We'd love to go but I can't decide if it's a bad idea with our LO? No think we'll go to old San Juan but maybe in the late afternoon. Any pr tips? We're bringing our uppababy g luxe so I may end up using the stroller more

We took to DD to PR at 7 months! It was a blast. I found it much easier to wear her than deal with the stroller for most places we went, but here are a few things that helped (many of which have already been mentioned):
* Get the best infant sunscreen you can (we used Blue Lizard zinc for her body and the Aveeno face zinc for her face). Reapply often, and especially after every time you are in the water.
* bring lots of swim diapers + at least two bathing suits for LO (it's a pain to try to put them in a damp suit)
* wear a big hat yourself so you can help cover LO
* bring the widest brim baby hat you can find, plus lots of light-colored long layers for her
* if you have baby sunglasses, my DD loved wearing hers on the beach
* get an umbrella whenever you can - on the beach or by the pool
* use a light blanket (do you know about Sun Snaps???) to cover DD's legs while carrying
* use the sun shade on your Ergo while she sleeps
* make sure you wear long, loose layers so you don't get too hot while wearing the carrier
* if you are BFing, try out the feasibility of nursing in your bathing suits. I had a tankini from Athleta that was GREAT for nursing - so much easier!
* nurse often and try to give LO some water during the day to keep her hydrated

I've baby worn for long periods in the hot sun (Disneyland in August!) and the key items to have on LO were: light colored, lightweight pants and socks, baby sunscreen, a big floppy hat, sunglasses and a very light blanket - our A&A swaddling blanket was perfect since it's so lightweight but I could lay it over her to cover her when she napped on me.

Don't forget the sunscreen for yourself!!

You could also carry an umbrella to protect against sun, if where you will be walking won't be too crowded. Bring plenty of water in a bottle or sippy too :)

I haven't gone anywhere tropical yet, but when I was wearing LO last summer I put a sun hat on her. If it was sunnier, I would have worn a big wide brimmed sun hat for myself to help cover her too. But she was too young for sun screen then.

@brady80: We're going to FL next week, so I've been thinking about this too :)

I'm planning to wear dd a lot whole we're there and I'm thinking for outdoor things like beach walks I'll make sure she's wearing baby-safe sunscreen as well as her sun hat and sun glasses.

I wore my then 9-month-old in Spain last year and even though I'd worn her in super hot Toronto all summer, it was harder in Spain and she overheated when I was wearing her at a family wedding. We applied sunscreen, carried a parasol and also a bottle of cold water that she could hug or press her face against when she got too hot. An A&A blanket helped keep the sun off too.

Sounds fun! I would make sure you get a big hat for her and that she wears long pants when you wear her. You can also get a baby friendly sunscreen. I used this site to do my research: http://www.ewg.org/2013sunscreen/best-sunscreens/best-beach-sport-sunscreens/

We're going on vacation in a few weeks with my parents. Our LO will be 7 months. We plan to mainly be at the pool/beach, but I think we will probably do a few excursions. We will be in puerto rico. I would like to babywear as much as possible because we are bringing our snap n go, which I don't love. Here are my questions:
1. will it be too hot to wear her?
2. how do I protect her from the sun while she is in the ergo or bjorn?

any advice is very much welcome!!!
