@hellocupcake: I disagree also. Everyone had me so convinced the baby was a boy that by 6 months I stopped shopping for gender neutral and went overboard with boy stuff. I started making personalized boy stuff with our boy name. And then out she popped as a little girl and my mind was blown. I still am not over it 9 weeks later. I'm so amazed and happy and feel zero bit of gender disappointment and wouldn't have if she was a boy. And now I have an excuse to go shopping daily for her. Being team green was incredible. There's something so awesome about getting your sweet baby in your hands and taking a lookie loo and finding out the gender. Like hands on learning. And knowing that your body is keeping a freaking secret from you for 40 weeks is so cool! Or annoying maybe haha. Anyways I will do it for all 100 of my other kids.

Oh and about the bonding. Ya it's true I didn't bond with my baby while she was in my stomach. But the second she fell out of me we have been best friends. I laid eyes on an angel and we've been head over heels since. Ok well I've been head over heels, I pretend that she loves me the same :)

Team team green!

For me, just getting to the anatomy scan was wait enough. I was very excited to find out. My hubby wanted to be team green for twins!! I said no way. I said he can go team green, I'll find out and won't tell him. He said no way, so we found out lol. He didn't like me knowing and him not knowing.

My husband and I both were Team Green, but slowly and steadily fell apart and decided to find out and we were SO glad we did. For me, it did help with bonding. Knowing it wasn't just a "baby", but a "boy" made it even more special for me. (Not that it wasn't already special!) Decorating, planning, buying things, discussing just boy's names, all of it was so much better for us. Plus, the way we looked at it, is that you have two surprises. One, the day you find out it is a boy/girl and the 2nd surprise, is the day of birth! Wouldn't change it for the world. I agree with others above that since you are carrying/delivering, you should get say in this one. :)

I agree with @LovelyPlum and @meganmp!! stay Team Green!! It's such a wonderful, exciting, magical surprise to experience when your little one is born! It's really an explainable thing. I wish everyone could experience it.

And another thought--I know you've bee feeling pretty anxious. It's a big adjustment for your husband, too! Maybe you can not even debate this for the next month or so and focus on enjoying your very good news. You've got some time to discuss.

@LovelyPlum: I'm with you! I didn't think it affected bonding at all- I felt just as connected to the babes as I would have if I had known their sex.

Hands down, the best moment ever was with DH got to tell me we had a boy and a girl. For him, too- he got to stagger into the waiting room at 3am, grin out our families and simply say, "A boy and a girl". The waiting room erupted, he said- scared the nurses and everything. Best thing ever!

I really didn't follow the directions on this post, did I? Sorry!

@hellocupcake: that is.really interesting to me, mostly because I feel the complete opposite. I figure, you have a whole lifetime with your boy or girl, but that waiting and wondering is so short lived. I wanted to prolong that magical mystery as long as I could!

@Mae: This for sure! The person carrying and pushing out the baby gets their way on this one, I think. And give it some time, at first I thought I might want to be TG, but like a week later I knew there was no way I could wait.

ETA: And honestly, if either of you has a gender preference, I encourage finding out. I know some people say that if you find out in the delivery room you won't care, but I really don't think that would have been true for me. Having time to re-adjust and get used to the idea of a son was something I really needed to be fully present and appreciative when I was meeting my son for the first time - I would've hated to have any sort of underlying feelings in that moment of not getting the girl my brain had been set on.

Something kinder than "I'm carrying this kid for 40 weeks and have to do all the appointments and deal with the sickness and the labor and delivery and if I want to find out the gender I'm damn well doing it..."? :) (There aren't many times I'd pull the "I'm the one carrying it" card, but this is totally one of them).
