@mopeybuthopey: I had a long break before IVF, but as others said, you don't have to wait too long between cycles. I wish you all the best with the next IUI and hope it works!!! :) I know how hard it is waiting and wondering when you will get your BFP. And as you said it truly is like hell. I suffered deep depression at times during our two year infertility struggles. It sucks! You will get through this. :) Hang in there!

@mopeybuthopey: Thank you! I am glad that your RE won't make you push through 3 IUIs if they think that it doesn't have a great chance. Each one is so emotionally draining. Good luck to you! :goodluck:

thanks @meganmp!!! Your story gives me hope! Good to have a sense of your timeline too. I think that first negative would be especially tough :| though definitely not uncommon. I'm glad you got a BFP just a couple months later. Hard to keep my head above the water with all of this.

@mopeybuthopey: We also had unexplained- both my blood work and DH's came back stellar, and my HSG was clear. We had three failed IUIs (last one was in November 2011). I wanted to move right into IVF, but I was on BCP to get my ovaries to rest, as well as the fact that otherwise my schedule may have had my retrieval or transfer date on the one day a year the lab is closed (Christmas).
So:
November: failed IUI
December: BCP for 3 weeks, stims for 11 days or so. Retrieval early January, 5 day transfer. :bfn:
January: month off to rest my ovaries
February (late): FET
March: :bfp:

Best of luck! We were also in the nada insurance category. I feel your pain, my dear!

Best wishes @sunshine1810!! Hope this is your lucky cycle too!!

Hadn't thought about all the releases-- that is definitely some heavy stuff.

My RE told me she wouldn't make me do three iuis if the stress became too much. We're essentially unexplained-- I have super mild PCOS and endo, neither of which she thinks are the cause of our failures. So IUI isn't really as likely to be successful for us compared to, for example, minor male factor or PCOS that causes non-ovulation.

@swedishfish: We just signed our life away today as well. We didn't have to meet with a social worker, but we had to do 30 pages of consent forms with the RE.

@mopeybuthopey: we skipped our remaining IUIs because DH's washed numbers were really bad. So I asked for my RE's opinion and he recommended going right to IVF with ICSI.

We had to meet with a social worker to make sure we were on the same page with IVF. We had to sign our lives away - what to do with frozen embryos if we divorced, if one or both of us died, etc. It's heavy stuff.

@mopeybuthopey: Our RE made us do 3 IUIs before considering IVF. That is their policy but I am sure that every clinic is different. It does feel like there are a lot of steps to take as @Mrs Green Grass said. I have gone back and forth between feeling like it's taking forever to all of sudden realizing that it's actually happening. Just to give you an idea of our timeline:

04/26: Started BCP

05/09: Medications were delivered

05/12: Mock Transfer

05/14: Injections Class

05/16: Hopefully Begin Injections

05/30: Ultrasound & Labs

06/04: Ultrasound & Labs

06/06: Ultrasound & Labs

Week of 06/09: Transfer & Retrieval

This is of course if everything goes exactly according to plan. Hope that helps give you a little better of an idea!

@swedishfish -- I totally understand the decision to skip remainders and go straight to IVF. I think I'm going to do two IUIs and then skip to IVF. Every month the let down gets worse, and I'm ready to try something that has a higher than the natural rate success rate. I know there are no guarantees, but I just want to know if I can get pregnant or not.

Interesting they made you meet with a social worker. Was this to confirm they felt your were qualified parents or more to handle the stresses of the "what if's" of IVF?

Really hope we finally get a BFP. Limbo land is the worst. I think it is one of the inner circles of hell in Dante's inferno (seriously).

Best wishes to you guys.

All I remember is that it felt like forever in between (it was probably 6 weeks). You have to get a "schedule" and it depends on the clinic and other factors. Your cycle doesn't matter a ton because they manipulate it with bcps, etc. Definitely start the process as soon as possible so that the time in between is short.

@mopeybuthopey: I didn't have a saline sono done for my IUIs but I needed one for my IVF cycle (and now my FET cycle). So that would have to be done. I jumped right from IUI to IVF but was on BC pills for over a month because the lab was closed for cleaning.

July 2012 - double IUI cycle
August 2012 - :bfn: , decision made to skip remaining IUIs and go to IVF
September 2012 - IVF

We were also required to meet with a social worker before undergoing IVF and attend an IVF introduction class. The requirements depend on your clinic.

My doctor would have let me move from our third failed IUI to IVF but we ended up taking a break for financial reasons. There is still a delay though because of BCP which @LEIALOU mentioned. We then ended up getting insurance coverage so we had a few months off. My doctor has said she likes month in between fresh cycles, but that as long as I was doing okay, we could move on from fresh to FET the next month.

My guess is that there would be a month between IUI and IVF. My doctor wanted me on BCP a month before I started IVF meds. I think after a fresh cycle you can go straight to a frozen cycle. I actually didn't want to do that because I needed a break from meds for my mental health. Here is what my schedule has been:

July 2013: trail transfer and saline sonogram, started BCP
Aug 2013: fresh IVF cycle, failed
Nov 2013: BCP for FET
Dec 2013: FET, failed
March 2014: BCP for FET
May 2014: FET

I was allowed to do a frozen cycle right after a fresh one. I then moved on to another (successful) fresh cycle right after the frozen one. I think in general my RE wanted to wait one cycle in between fresh ones. I think he also would have let me jump straight from IUIs to IVF assuming my ovaries looked okay, but I needed a break psychologically. I was happy, however, to quickly go through the IVF rounds--moving forward was the only thing that saved me from depression. Good luck!

Hi ladies. One cycle of IUI down two more to go. I was wondering: if the third cycle fails, can I generally move into ivf as soon as my period starts or is there a waiting time?

For what it's worth, I'm privately paying and insurance covers nada so there's no hold up there.

Also if my first ivf cycle weren't to result in a positive and I'm lucky enough to have a frozen embryo left over, how long after the failed fresh cycle does it to take to be ready to implant the frozen one? Can you do it the next cycle (as in the same cycle AF arrives)?

If there are no frozen options... How long till you can start a new fresh cycle? Thanks guys. Tryin to figure out scheduling. My life has been on hold for so long now :/
