@Cole: i second a waterproof mattress cover. That baby is going to be leaky and the last thing you will want to be doing is changing sheets + wiping down a mattress + waiting for it to dry in the middle of the night. I would suggest 2. Plus, baby puke can be stinky, not sure how easy the smell will come out of a wipeable mattress.

@bunnylove08: @birdofafeather: my insurance only pays for a manual or 6-month rental of a hospital pump. Since I hope to BF for a year, neither option is great, which is why I still need my own double electric. I'm hoping to rent the hospital-grade pump just before I go back to work so I can keep one there and one at home for as long as possible.

I do have some postpartum stuff for me -- Tucks, giant super-absorbent pads, breast pads, lanolin. I love my Vapur water bottles so will probably use those. I need to remember to pick up some cheap granny panties though.

@Mamasig: @locavore_mama: mittens added to the list!

@shellio: hmm, that's a good idea, I hadn't thought about just-in-case formula.

@bunnylove08: was going to ask the same thing! check to see if you can get a pump from insurance and use your friend's gift money for something else!

do you have stuff for YOU post partum? tucks pads, post partum healing spray, pads with wings, boobie tubes? i also loved drinking water out of straws (i drank somewhere around 100 oz a day in the beginning) and snacks for you.

Do you have any formula at home? My SIL's milk didn't come in right away and they ended up having to use formula for a day or so, the baby was screaming and so hungry. So she recommended that we have formula on hand just in case, we appreciated the recommendation because we were able to do a little research and buy a brand ahead of time that we would be happy with if we ended up needing it.

@tinyperson: we do have a pack of newborn disposables. But I'm not too worried about cloth diapering at first because we're using a diaper service so we don't have to wash them ourselves!

@Cole: the mattress already has a waterproof cover, so we'll just wipe it down as necessary. Prefolds can double as burp cloths. And I forgot to put it on my list above, but I do have a K'tan carrier!

@Raindrop: we have a mix of newborn and 0-3 clothes, I'll have to check how many of each. Do you think the flannel cloth wipes I'm planning to get would be okay on newborn skin?

Do you have mattress pads for the crib mattress? Stuff leaks through sheets pretty quickly.

The only other thing I could think of would be a carrier of some sort like a moby.

ETA-- Do you have something that will function as burp cloths?

We didn't cloth diaper, but I've heard others say that they used disposable diapers in the beginning. Maybe have a small pack on hand? I second the newborn outfits...we ended up with a tiny girl and nothing fit for a long time.

The few things that I got after labor that I get for all new moms now

-newborn outfits (I only had 0-3 month outfits and LO was swiming in them, so I had to go out and get a few right after we were released from the hospital, don't need that many because they grow out of them fast!)
-dry baby wipes (it seems newborn skin is so sensitive that you can't use normal pre-wet wipes because all the chemicals so dry baby wipes with warm water is what our hospital recommonded when we gave birth... thanks for telling me this after I gave birth and not during the many classes I took with you before giving birth! We bought ours on amazon when we got out of the hospital. These were just very durable strong napkins.)

Good luck!

Baby is due in 3.5 weeks and I need to round out our gear/supplies! If anyone has suggestions, I'd be grateful.

Things We Have:
Crib/mattress/sheets
Moses basket with stand
Changing pad
Cloth diaper delivery (comes next weekend; includes pail)
Diaper covers
Wipes
Swaddles and a bunch of swaddle blankets
Lots of onesies, footed pjs, sleep gowns, etc
Carseat
Stroller
Glider
Bottle rack
Bibs
Bumbo
Play mat
Tub, towels, etc
K'tan

Still On Registry (will close out once I add any other stuff we need):
Reusable wipes
Snappis
Wet bag
Diaper bag
Nursing pillow and cover
Bottle warmer
Pump (some friends are chipping in for this but haven't bought it yet)
Bottles and nipples
Infant lounger pillow
Nosefrida
Thermometer
Baby nail scissors

My hubby and I would like to keep things minimal and fill in with things we need as we go. So I'm mainly asking about things a newborn needs that we don't have on one of these lists already. We may borrow a swing from a friend if we need it, and another friend is giving us a baby monitor she no longer needs. I have an irrational aversion to the RNP right now and will only get one if nothing else works...
