Thanks everyone for your input! Your right I shouldn't worry about the snack things now and focus more on newborn items. You all gave me a lot of good advice:)

1. My son liked both, but preferred the bouncer (Fisher Price Infant to Toddler Rocker), which is quite portable, inexpensive, and made a good toddler rocking chair until LO started climbing on it head first. LO napped in it for way too long... I also loved our Snug-a-bunny swing, and that it plugs in.

2. I used the Ameda bottles that came with the pump for convenience. I bought a ton more of them. It saved a lot of dishes and pouring using the same bottles to pump into and feed. I did buy Dr. Brown's preemie nipples for the slow flow (LO was not a preemie). I eventually got some faster flow nipples. I ran them in the dishwasher, along with the pump parts. We ran the dishwasher every night while I was pumping, which might be wasteful, but was totally worth it. My LO never had any problem going back and forth between bottle and breast.

3. I did not register for this, and in general I went cheap with feeding stuff. I only registered for newborn stuff.

4. I regretted not registering/buying a nursing cover an extra cover for my breast friend, and sound machine. The only things I registered for that I did not like were minor things, like Johnson & Johnson bath stuff (no need for special baby bath stuff). Things I did not have and did not miss are a diaper genie (regular trash worked fine), bottle warmer (used warm tap water in a measuring cup), changing table/pad (towel on the floor), or humidifier (I knew I would not clean it as much as necessary).

Like pp said every baby is different! Both my boys liked a vibrating chair. The 1st didn't care for the swing but the second slept in the mamaroo a lot. We used tommee tippee bottles and both like them with no problems.

I say don't register for too many blankets. That tends to be something people will give as gifts a lot. I think the burp cloths and bibs at the store suck. I ordered from etsy - they are pricier but so much more absorbent and prettier. My boys were big time droolers.

I wish I would have registered the convertible car seat. Both my boys were in RF convertible seats between 4-6 months.

It's really hard bc every baby is different!

1. I went with a rock n play and got a hand me down swing. Right now LO is 4 weeks and likes neither! I'm hoping she will take to the rnp later...

2. I have medela and LO took a few bottles fine so far

1. My LO loved both, so I would recommend a combo (sadly we didn't do this.) I would look for something that plugs in in addition to batteries, otherwise you will be spending $$$ on batteries.

2. WE used Tommee Tippee and loved them, we started out with Medela (just put on a nipple after I got done pumping) but she was getting too much air. Both are very easy to clean.

3. Skip registering for snack containers, they are cheap and you can buy when it comes closer, I would focus on the stuff you need/want for the first 6 months.

4. I didn't use my boppy, I know some swear by it but I preferred using a regular pillow. I also never used the dishwashing baskets, diaper genie (we threw it away), and bottle warmer.

We only registered for the bouncer but a friend gave me her swing. My LO loves both but I think the bouncer is easier to travel with - we take it when we are visiting friends for an afternoon.

With regards to BF bottles - I wish I had registered for more 8 oz bottles to pump into. I had to order more of those as well as more 4 oz bottles - I think 2 or 3 come with the pump but I needed more. I would also register for more pump accessories - more valves, membranes, etc.

My son did not like the sleep sacks or swaddle/straight jackets. He preferred the lightweight AA muslin swaddle blankets which we had to buy after he arrived. I also should have registered for onesies 0-3 month (long and short sleeve) - I got one or two sets as gifts but we needed more.

We have way too many washcloths.

@Mrs. Jump Rope: Oh those are good tips! Now I feel like I didn't think this through... Our top 4 must have items (like couldn't live without) were:
- Graco Little Lounger (used instead of RNP because we didn't like the slant) and he slept in it until 3 months and we will still occasionally use it as a baby holder
- Boppy Newborn Lounger pillow (we use this DAILY - he lives on this pillow, even at 4.5 months)
- Mam pacis (we were gifted these and he has a clear preference for them - while the soothies are adorable, he HATES them - wish I had realized that, similar to bottles, a baby could have a paci preference)
- Marpac Dohm (sound machine)

@Mrs.Pinecone316:

1. We didn't have a bouncer or a swing. My nana gifted us a mamaroo & both my kids hated it. Both my kids LOVED the rock n play, though. By and far, a must have registry item.

2. We used playtex drop ins when I FF my oldest so I got those again for my youngest. I BF her and she doesn't like to take a bottle, so I wish I would y have stocked up on bottles this time! On a recommendation, we got a tommy tippee and she doesn't prefer that either.

3. Target has a munchkin brand snack container that rocks for when kids are a bit older. It holds snacks and keeps them mess free. Great for eliminating spills and crumbs. Other than that, your basic soft spoons and plastic bowls do just fine.

4. With my oldest, we didn't register for enough burp cloths or bibs and definitely needed a TON. With our youngest, we bought a&a blankets and are in love with them. Also got a boon lawn drying rack and wish we'd have had it with our oldest!

1. Bouncer vs swing. - Same as others recommended with the combo. My son hates the swing though and is a bouncer addict, for what it's worth.

2. Bottles- We use the Joovy Boob. We had a bottle strike at ~10 weeks and ended up trying 5 different bottles until we (he) settled on that one. We started with the Avent Natural and bought tons of them... now I have a crap ton of unused bottles in our cabinet. Not my best call. I'd just buy 2 of maybe 2 brands. I personally didn't want to go to the Dr. Brown bottles because I'm lazy.

3. What is a must have for snacks/ baby food/ bowls ect when a baby starts snacking and eating baby food and solids? I wouldn't worry about this right now. I just bought him all his supplies for starting purees and I think it was $30.

4. Anything you didn't register that you wish you had? Anything that was a waste and wish you didn't register for? Not really... regret getting so many swaddles as my son hated them. Actually I wish I had registered for onesies in the NB, 0-3, 3-6, 6-9 ranges. We wear those all the time for lounging.

Hope this helps.

I did a whole blog post on this - one year later - the stuff we used / didn't use / bought 5 or 6 times til we found one that worked. Link in profile and then choose November and its just "Registry Essentials."

1) A rock and play would be both. Bouncers are nice to sit the baby in (although you can do a boppy seat). Swings are great for some babies but some don't like them. Olivia only slept in a swing for naps for months. So we needed ours - haha.
2) Keep whatever comes with the pump or a handme down or samples you get and buy them post baby. Babies have preferences and you don't want a whole set and your baby not like it.
3) & 4) are in the post.

1. Bouncer vs swing: I was going to suggest exactly what @Eminthevalley: did for a combo bouncer/swing!

2. Bottles: We also use Dr. Brown bottles, and a bonus is that Babies R Us gives out free bottles every holiday with a purchase. I wound up with 6 extra bottles throughout the year that way!

3. I didn't buy anything special to make baby food, I just used my Ninja and it worked fine for purees. I registered for a munchkin spoons, plastic bibs with the pouches, a few bowls with lids, and 2 snack cups.

4. I found the buggy cover to be a total waste and nursing covers I never used either. I didn't register for one, but was gifted an Aiden & Anais blanket, and LOVE it. It doubled as a nursing cover, swaddle and light blanket.

Have fun registering!

It's been a while so I don't remember all the details...
1) I have twins and one hated the swing and both hated the bouncer. Fisher Price makes a space-saver combo swing/bouncer seat that I would recommend. http://www.amazon.com/Fisher-Price-Space-Saver-Swing-Seat/dp/B00CWN3JU6/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1420151455&sr=8-1&keywords=fisher+price+space+saver+swing
2) We used Dr. Browns as a lot of people recommended them. Never had any issues with leaking. Pain to wash all the parts but I believe they are high quality. Again, twins. Formula fed (well for 3 months they were combo fed and I pumped). So durable!
3) I wouldn't worry about this. Bowls and spoons are cheap when the time comes and I think different babies like different things.
4) I used everything I registered for with the exception being a twin feeding pillow. A friend of mine has newborn Boppy loungers and they are awesome; wish I had had them as they outgrew the regular Boppy quickly.

Just started my baby registry, I already did a lot of research on the bigger items but still have a few questions on other things.

1. Bouncer vs swing. Don't have room for both so wondering if there is one that you think is better to have than the other. Is it just babies preference? Which ones do you like? We would like more of the smaller portable ones.

2. Bottles- SO overwhelming. I plan on BFing but will still pump/bottle feed and don't know where to start. As a NICU nurse I bottle feed with cheap standard bottles and nipples all the time and don't see the importance of all these fancy bottles/nipples. What am I missing that makes the rest so much better?

3. What is a must have for snacks/ baby food/ bowls ect when a baby starts snacking and eating baby food and solids?

4. Anything you didn't register that you wish you had? Anything that was a waste and wish you didn't register for?

For reference I will be registering at Buy Buy Baby and Amazon.

Thanks!!!
