@MoonMoon: Mine was pretty old when we used it, so I kind of doubt it’s still even made 😂 The exersaucer weight limit might be tricky, though I’m pretty sure we used ours longer than we “should” have.

@karenbme: @JJ2626: @caitcat: Sounds good! do you guys recommend any specific excersaucers? Lo is a big boy (21 lbs and tall!) so I'd love something that would work for him and he wouldn't quickly size out of. We have the Björn bouncy chair and he's usually not really into it.

@Jessiemuller88: I think I just need to hear this. I feel like it seems that some babies just naturally like lying down by themselves but most probably have to work up to it.

@Portboston: I hear you. My 7 year old is the same way 😬 And this baby is a lot heavier, so wearing him all the time is physically difficult already and he's not even 6 months!

My son was like this and I wish I would have taken the time to work on it as he is almost 6 now and still my little shadow!!! I would put baby down with toys while you are in the room for a few minutes and build up. It’s going to take some work but it’ll be worth it.

An excersaucer helped a bunch to distract my second daughter when she was still super clingy around that age. She also really liked a jumperoo (I think that's what it was called), like a bouncy exersaucer thing. We had trouble keeping our two and a half year old out of that though, so we didn't use it as much as we could have.

I also still wore her until she was close to a year old because she was easier to keep happy if I held her. I'm not sure how that worked out for me though, because now she's four and would still be happiest if I'd carry her all day... :)

I second the exersaucer suggestion. He has to be able to kind of hold himself up but not sit independently. My DD didn’t like being put down either and that worked for us. Especially once she started crawling because then you really could not put her down without her crawling away! She also liked the baby bjorn bouncer chair for short stretches.

I have 15 month old twins, and around that age, they were basically either on their tummy or back on the floor all day. I would put toys all around them. At first they would scream and not like it, so I gradually worked them up to longer stretches. Start small, and eventually he will tolerate more and more time by himself.

I had a hard time doing this with DS who is now four, and I ended up carrying and wearing him a lot too. By the time my twins were here, I was so exhausted, and I physically couldn’t carry both, so I honestly just let them cry for small stretches, and they got use to it.

What about an excersaucer type set up? My lo wanted nothing more than to be upright and see what was going on when she was little. Lights and/or music were a big bonus too. We had a thing she could stand in (with support) that had light up piano keys on one part of the saucer that totally blew her mind the first time and then she would play in it for half an hour at a time while we worked early in the pandemic.

I feel kind of dumb even having to ask this but...is there any secret to getting my baby to play or just be ok by himself for 5-10 minutes?

He's almost 6 months. He can't sit independently yet. We carry him /wear him /wheel him around the house or outside in his stroller a lot. He will not accept being put down! I want him to have a few minutes of unstructured time here and there. And to be honest, I just want to eat, go to the bathroom, etc sometimes. I'll be going back to work next month and he won't be starting daycare until the fall (availability issues). My husband will be with him (and our older kid) during the day because he's not teaching over the summer, and I would feel better for both of them if LO is able to be content by himself for little bits here and there.

We have playmats, bouncy chair, or just a crib or blanket - he doesn't like any of these by himself. We bought a supported seat but returned it because he didn't like it at all. Dangling toys don't interest him much.

Teach me your ways! :silly:
