I like Marriott's!

What about a cute little toiletry bag with toiletries in it. Put the gift card in there, so they start going through it, trying to figure out what the gift is.

We usually go with SPG hotels (W, Westin, Sheraton) but they're not located everywhere...

I love love love staying in Bed and Breakfasts. They are so fun! You get a neat room, a delicious breakfast, and a great experience. I think you can get a generic giftcard to a bed and breakfast website. Before we had kids, we only stayed in B&B's!

I wonder if it might be more likely for them to take it if you choose a place in advance even if you don't set the dates? I love looking at jetsetter.com for hotel deals (but google/call around because sometimes there are better rates). They usually have fun ones and you have enough time now to get brochures sent to you or to print them off with ideas on what to do.

You could do a cute map then with things around the hotel they might enjoy like the locations of Starbucks, museums, cute shopping areas etc.

Also check groupon for deals on interesting places, I found this one that might be near-ish you: http://www.groupon.com/deals/ga-the-blennerhassett-hotel

If you go with the Expedia type gift card maybe offer 2-3 suggested itineraries? Find a cute tote bag and put in a bottle of wine or other special drink, nuts, chocolates, magazines about the proposed areas and so on. A deck of cards or other travel game might be fun too.

I like this idea! You could package it with some travel brochures for a tourist area close by. Maybe a magazine article about how great the town is with recommendations on what to do, where to eat and stay? Southern Living always has those types or articles if you live in the south. Texas Monthly has those types of articles as we'll, so maybe whatever your regional magazine is.

I think Expedia or Travelocity would be best. Then they can go with whatever looks most appealing to them. They could even use it for flights if they wanted.

Maybe a box with all little travel essentials? Mini shampoo/suncream/eye mask/book.

Depending on how much you want to spend you could chuck in a restaurant gc too.

@MrsBrewer: Really the only trips my parents go on are missions trips, and they are out of the country. They do that 2-3 times per year, but they're not relaxing or luxurious! My in-laws basically never travel for pleasure. They use their travel time/money to visit my SIL. So, I think no matter what I get they will appreciate!

I really like the idea for a gift card to Expedia or Travelocity.

I mean do you know if your parents have a hotel preference? DO they travel often, or do you think they would be more inclined to choose somewhere that they can get a good deal on?

We've started our Christmas shopping, so we can spread the costs over a few paychecks. I've finished with Sadie, so I'm starting on our parents tonight.

Our parents do so much for us + Sadie, so we want to do something nice for them that they might not do otherwise - we want to send them for a relaxing weekend away! With their schedules being pretty crazy & their tastes being so opposite, I don't want to actually plan the getaway, so we are thinking hotel gift cards are the way to go.

SO... this is where I need y'all's help!

Which hotel chain would you prefer to get a GC card to? Hyatt, Marriott, other...? Or, would you prefer a GC to somewhere like Travelocity or Expedia where you could pick the hotel?

Then, how should I package the gift cards? What other little items should I include for a weekend away?

Any other input/opinions/suggestions/ideas are welcome! I want it to be special!
