Thanks all. His room is carpeted so actually it makes the most sense to me that some pee got on the carpet somehow and that is why it smells. Black light is a good idea, lol. Really, the carpets could use a steam cleaning anyway so it is probably a good idea.

Any carpet? I'd get it cleaned. Do other smells linger? If they do maybe it's a circulation thing but I really think you have pee in there somewhere!

@Littlebit7: Yes! Black lights are great! You can even buy just a black light bulb and plug it into a little lamp

Do you have carpet or s Rug in there? Anything fabric that has gotten Pee on it will keep smelling up the room.

I would say there has to be a source. Either in the carpet, in the mattress, or somewhere.

Our 3 year old's room seems to circulate air poorly compared to the other rooms in our house. I would leave the fan going on your thermostat - even if you don't need AC or heat, just blowing the fan will circulate the air, as well as leaving the window open during the day. If the air isn't moving and its a little muggier where you live (I think you said FL?) then it will magnify whatever smells you have. You can also leave an air freshener in there - like a Stick'Em or something.

@mama bird we don't have a potty in there. That is a good point about the pillow. Maybe I need to wash it.

I sniff the mattress and pillow and I don't smell a pee smell, but it has to be something.

@looch yeah, we have a mattress protector.

I will try opening the windows and continue to hunt for the leak. Uggh. It is frustrating!

We use an air purifier and that helps.

I open the windows in the bedrooms in the morning, every morning. I can't stand stuffy air.

In addition, have you encased the mattress so that leaks don't penetrate it?

There's got to be a source. Do you keep a potty in the room? Maybe it flipped over at some point. Is it the mattress, or the pillow? Yes, one of my kids occasionally gets the pillow. Maybe there was an accident in a corner and the residue is still there...

The air circulation in my daughter's room is really bad and smells tend to linger. I have to leave her door open and the ceiling fan on when we're gone, otherwise the air in her room gets pretty stagnant. I leave her door open a crack at night too to keep the temperature better regulated for the same reasons. Maybe even putting a fan blowing out in the doorway could help get the air moving and less smelly.

Ok, I feel like I am a terrible housekeeper/terrible mother, but my 2 year old's room always reeks of urine and I cannot get the smell out! He sleeps in an overnight diaper that almost never leaks, but it is VERY FULL and heavy every morning. He sleeps in a crib. I change the sheets and wash his blankies and pillowcase and everything usually 2x/week. And we do the regular vacuuming and wiping stuff down.

We don't keep diapers in there (we take them downstairs or outside) so it's not a diaper genie issue. I don't even keep his dirty clothes in there (I put them in the hamper in my room). I am guessing it is from his pee-filled overnight diaper. But his room smells like pee ALL THE TIME, like even when we go in there after we've been gone 12 hours.

What am I doing wrong here? And how do I get rid of the smell?!
