Following because we are in the same boat! I have "paci fairy" gifts put aside and we are tentatively planning on taking them away on Friday. We've been talking up the "paci fairy" for a little while now. I'm terrified though. She's been sleeping really poorly due to having like 4 illnesses in a row and I feel terrible taking away her beloved "dinkies" right now.

We took them away right before 2.5. We told him for a month that the Easter bunny was going to take all his paci's and leave him candy instead. Then, the day before Easter we told him he could pick his favorite one to stuff in a build-a-bear before the bunny came the next day, so he would always have one.

He asked for it at the first nap, we reminded him to hug the paci bear and that it was inside the bear. He cried for 5 minutes and went to sleep. That night he asked for it, but didn't cry....we reminded him it was in the bear. Easter came, paci's all disappeared. He never asked about it again.

We weaned at 2.5 - we went to my parents for a holiday and I just told her I forgot them. She asked for it once and then didn't hear anything more about it. She hadn't used it at daycare for a year, and was only using for sleep at home (although it was imperative to her that she have it for that purpose). You might get lucky like we did! I thought we'd have a major battle...

We weaned at 2.5. His last paci had a crack in it, and we said that when it was all the way broken, he couldn't use it anymore. We helped it along by cutting it a bit. The first night was not bad--he just held it, and slept fine. The second night was bad--he was really upset and wanted it to be fixed. Then it was not so bad. Unfortunately, bedtime became a huge battle (started taking forever) and so did naptime. In retrospect I wish we had waited til he ws 3 and done the paci fairy or something!

ETA bedtime wasn't hard because he was asking for the paci or anythin--he never asked for it again. He just started stalling and not going to sleep til late.

My 2.5 year old is addicted to her pacifier. We limit her use to bed time and the car, but she finds them and will use them during the day when she's home. At daycare she doesn't ask for it. I'm so tired of the whining for it and I'm ready to cut the cord!
Do we have the pacifier fairy come and stop cold turkey or should we slowly wean by cutting the tips over three days?
