@Foodnerd81: Aww... sorry it didn't work longer. That's a tough witching hours, but hang in there! I felt like witching hours were endless when we were in the thick of it - but then it just seemed to go away one day.

@shopaholic: that's what it seems like. But 10-1 am is not really a convenient time! Dh has her now and she's at least calmer. But he's going away tues- thurs and ill be home alone. I'm really dreading it, especially if she's going to be like this.

She was actually so sweet today, happy, couple of good naps. Went down at her normal time then an hour later sh!t hit the fan again. It sucks. Your yoga ball trick helped for a few minutes though!

Thanks everyone! She slept from 1:30 to after 8, and woke up her usual sweet hungry self. It seems like the milk it her late night feeding did not bother her.

So I have no idea what the problem really was but no more broccoli for a few months, and I'm not going to it out dairy but I will probably be mindful of it just in case. I'm guessing it was a combo or wonder week, being a little sick and the mucous upsetting her tummy, and the broccoli and maybe dairy. It was a rough night but hopefully we are all better today!

FWIW, mine periodically gets that same spinachy poo every month or so and I've never been able to connect it to a specific food I'm eating or even reliably to her bouts of fussiness... I wonder if it might just be a coincidence? I try to find reasons for everything, but recently it's helped me to decide that even though it's so tempting to connect things rationally, babies are often just crazily mysterious and irrational, you know? Most important: this too shall pass!

in the early days I couldn't eat broccoli or pepperoni without making LO super fussy and gassy for the rest of the day. so it could well be the casserole!

off note! I make that same casserole just without the mayo!

I can't comment on the casserole situation but FWIW we are having wonderweekmageddon over here!! Friday, she screamed all day - I've never seen her like it before. She woke in a good mood after a long sleep but then would.not.nap and was grotty by lunchtime... then by 3pm she was hysterical. It was awful. She wasn't quite as bad yesterday but is off her food and we had trouble getting her to sleep at night. Bloody wonder week!!!

@Foodnerd81: I posted about my LO's poops recently that look exactly like chopped spinach. I asked both my doctor and my
LC, and neither was concerned at all-- even though my LO isn't over,y fussy, she doesn't eat as much as she used to, which makes me wonder if she's having tummy issues.

So I'm working on slowly eliminating dairy--- which is HARD, because I'll go 24 hours without eating dairy successfully, and then I'll mindlessly eat an ice cream or something because I just forget. Ugh. Good luck!!!!

@mrbee: it literally looks like chopped frozen spinach- dark green and dry. I kep coming across thing like green and frothy which her poop was not.

@Corduroy: she had her first cold this week. It was mild, just a stuffy nose and little cough, and she seems to be on the mend. I did wonder if the mucous was causing the weird poo

She's been asleep in my arms for 20 min. Going to try to put her down. Wish me luck. And thanks for the support!.

@Foodnerd81: does spinach-like mean it's green?

Been googling and read that green poop can indicate a dairy sensitivity (among other things):
http://kellymom.com/health/baby-health/m2m-green-stools/

Then again, broccoli can cause gas so maybe that caused the gas and the milk caused the green poop?

I think newborn fussiness peaks around six to eight weeks, so it could be that. We had some shocking days around that time. Things settled down in the all-day-crying-fests department after that.

The broccoli def. sounds like part of it. You may want to avoid cabbage and cauliflower as well while you're BFing if you think its irritating her. They're all in the same gas-producing family.

@Foodnerd81: Sorry you're having a rough day! I remember K went through a really fussy period, where I always thought/she was gassy. Bouncing on the yoga ball was my life for a ew weeks. But just wanted to say, that a few times, a last resort was to put her tummy-down on top of the yoga ball (supported, of course) and I would gently rock her a tiny bit back and forth on it. It always worked to stop her crying for a bit. I think I read that the pressure was good, or something. Might be worth a try during those MOTN scream-fests. I would also try cutting out the gassy, spicy, and dairy foods. Good luck & hang in there!

C is 9 weeks old on Monday. She's been fussy all week (8 week wonder week? Her temperament?) but today is unlike anything. She woke up pretty normal, went down for her nap ok, then woke up half an hour later very unhappy. My mom is staying with me while Dh is away and said she seemed really gassy, so she pumped her legs for a while and it helped, eventually she took a nice long nap. She didn't nap for the rest if the day (this is a problem but happens all the time). She had at least three chopped spinach like poops- very unusual for her. Then tonight she was very cranky (being overtired) but eventually I fed her and she went down no problem, only to wake up half an hour later and scream for hours. I don't know what wrong or how to help her.

I had a bunch of broccoli casserole last night and tonight. She was fine last night but gassy this morning, then had this grassiness again tonight. So I'm afraid my milk is upsetting her stomach but she wouldn't even take a pumped bottle. So now I'm nursing her again but I'm afraid this whole thing is going to start up again. I did push her legs to chest for a while and eventually get a good gassy poop out, normal consistency. She was happy for a bit and then went back to screaming.

So far the only way she's consoled is nursing (for now) and bouncing in the exercise ball. Obviously I can't sleep on that.

Advice? Cvs is closed and I don't know the nearest 24 hour pharmacy for gas drops. I hate seeing her so upset. And of course this is the weekend Dh is away. Thank god my mom is here!!
