@JoJoGirl: I'm following this since I'll be in a similar situation next month. I totaly understand the fear of not having the moby though-- for the first few months that was the ONLY way to get C to sleep sometimes. I have two borrowed ones now and always keep one in the stroller just in case, even though we haven't used it in a while. She likes our Beco carrier but has never slept in it the way she used to sleep in the Moby, but like your LO, she hasn't actually napped in it in a while.

Would you have room in your suitcase to bring it, just in case, but not have it with you on the plane? That way if the way there sucks, you could take it for the way home?

As far as on the plane, I also heard that they make you unbuckle them so it would be easier for a flight attendant or emergency personnel to grab the baby if something happened to you. I'm planning to wear C in the airport next month, and probably have her sleep in my lap on the travel boppy I got.

You should also check if there are any open seats on the plane and see if you can sit next to one, but I feel that's unlikely with how packed planes are these days.

I voted just one - the stokke since she hasn't been napping much in the moby. And I agree with traveling less since you're packing so much extra stuff as is with a baby.

I would bring both if you can. I didn't bring our boba when we went up to my parents because we brought a lot---just the ergo. Turns out. Boba would have come in handy.

I would go with the Strokke. I took both the Moby wrap and the Ergo on a flight once and the Moby took up so much room!! I never used it, either. I ended up just using the Ergo. She was 3 months at the time.. I think I would take the more structured carrier and hope she falls asleep if she is tired enough. Mine always seems to, if she gets to that point of sleepiness. :)

I, too had to detach my sleeping baby (and other times toddler) from my carrier when I was seated in the plane. It really all depends on the flight attendants.

Huh, good to know about safety- everyone has told us wearing her on the plane was the #1 tip for flying. Too late to get her a seat, but DH just said this morning she's getting so big, we will likely get her a seat next time regardless.

@scg00387: not tiny at all :) but I wear her in the moby with legs out and she still loves it! But yeah hasn't slept well in it recently so maybe not worth it :(

I don't know how much time you have, but a lot of moms recommend those mesh ring slings, which are light and also can be used in the pool/water.

WRT to the baby being strapped to you on the plane, the issue (as I understand it) is the force of your body will literally crush your child in a forward impact as you bend over at the waist. Supposedly, your child is safer unbuckled as a projectile, but take that advice with a grain of salt (my son has flown as a lap child, but after I learned this, he gets a seat of his own). I don't think any airline follows a standard procedure, so this is kind of subject to the rules of each particular airline.

Chiming in to say that when I wore LO onto the planes in my beco, I was informed that he would need to be detached from me for take off and landing. Just something to consider, because when I unstrapped him, he woke right up and I didn't wear him for the rest of the flight.

@Mrs. Lion: I'm. It sure...I suppose. The discussion was in relation to both turbulence (which isn't really a factor on a train), but also other potential incidents.

I would only bring the Stokke. It'll likely be too hot to wear her in the Moby at your destination, and I would've been really uncomfortable wearing LO during our flight (and we went when she was 3 months).

Is she tiny?! I can't imagine having used the Moby at 7 months. With that being said, they don't take up that much room! I would totally take it, no questions asked.

@JoJoGirl: ooh, I would just go with the stokke then probably...LL stopped sleeping in the wrap around 5/6 months and really didn't like to be worn in it anymore...we switched to an Ergo about that time.

I don't know, as I would have a hard time taking only one carrier. However, I'm in a bunch of babywearing groups and the subject of wearing on a plane came up recently and, if the plane is your main concern, you may want to consider that it's apparently quite unsafe to wear your baby on a plane. If something were to happen it's (again, apparently..this is what I read in a lengthy discussion about it) safer for your baby not to be attached to you....

Just a thought :)

@QueensBee: Yeah i imagine I won't use it a whole lot there because we're headed to a tropical destination. Thanks :)

I voted to only bring one carrier, unless you end up with enough space to bring both. In my experience, my son will fall asleep in any forward-facing carrier, so I think she will adjust too. Plus, you mentioned that the Moby will hot at your destination and not practical, so overall, I think it is probably excessive to bring both.

I hope you enjoy the trip!!!

How old is your baby? If less than 3 months, I would just bring the Moby if I had to pick one. Having that for naps was so important when we were traveling. Older than 3 months, I would do both. It is worth it to know that you have somewhere for baby to nap. They don't take up THAT much room.

We are going on vacation this weekend for 8 days. Since LO was born, I've always worn her in the Moby and DH has always worn her in the Stokke (and structured carrier like a Bjorn but with a 'healthy seat' to avoid hip dysplasia). It has options for both inward and outward facing and has a backpack carry.

I'm terrified to go away without the Moby as I've never gotten LO to sleep in the Stokke. DH thinks we need to cut back as much as possible on how much gear we're packing and one carrier is fine, especially since it has an in-facing option like I wear her in the Moby.

I'm especially worried about the flight. Once we're there, I am guessing it'll be pretty hot for the Moby.

What do you think?

ETA: The last couple of times I've worn her in the Moby, she hasn't fallen asleep anyway.....

ETA2: LO is 7 months old.
