Congrats!

Simplicity Parenting and The Whole Brained Child are my two favorite parenting books.

I also found the Wonder Weeks interesting.

Secrets of the Baby Whisperer was my favorite for the early baby years. Now that I have toddler/preschoolers I love How to Talk so Little Kids will Listen, and Kids, Parents and Power Struggles

@MrsJBeeG: just the fact that you're self-aware puts you leaps and bounds in front of most people :)

I just started reading a book called No-Drama Discipline which I think is a bit of a sister-friend to How To Talk So Kids Will Listen. I like them both so far for behavior/discipline, which is a while from now for you.

Healthy Sleep Habits, to me, was a good read for theoretical understanding of baby sleep and valuable/worth reading--but IMO not user-friendly for actually implementing a plan, the organization of the book is not very clear. As for sleep schedule and specific questions about breastfeeding/food (the two big ones), HB was the best resource by miles. I don't know how I would have made it through my first "fourth trimester" without the women here.

ETA--I signed up for Lucie's List and found her weekly emails to be super, super helpful and fun to read. Probably not dissimilar to hummusgirl's Baby Center emails.

I found the Babycenter weekly emails helpful - ideas for what the eff you should be doing with your baby and what's normal for each age. :-)

I also joined a local moms group (specific to babies born around the same time) that was probably the most helpful thing in the early days to meet other people and ask questions about what I was dealing with in the day-to-day (which was just eating and sleeping, basically). We would get together and go on walks with our babies strapped to our chests, or meet up at a coffee shop. Having a newborn can be really isolating if you don't make an effort at human interaction!

I really love Janet Lansbury (I know a lot of bees here do too). She has books, podcast and a blog and I think in the early years of parenting it was really essential that I adopt the mindset of an unruffled parent that is my children's rock no matter what emotions they throw at me.

I’m so excited for you!

It’s not a tactical book (which I think is fine because you may forget anything you read before you need it) but I found Nutureshock pretty interesting.

I also like Healthy Sleep Habits Happy Child but don’t know if it’s worth reading yet? Maybe worth having around. And the Wonder Weeks book is helpful.

I also enjoyed reading about the birth process itself while pregnant but can’t remember what I read ... :silly:

ETA also How to listen so little kids will talk is a good book but will be a while before you need it! Learned about that one on here

So I’ve suffered a history of losses and found myself unexpectedly pregnant again. Feeling hopeful that this time I may be on the road to a healthy baby.

If I am, as a first time mom - I have not really thought about life after pregnancy. I am an avid reader and think it’s time to start thinking about learning some tips and tools to raise a healthy, well adjusted and happy child who eventually becomes an independent and thoughtful adult and how I can be the best parent I can be. I know much of this comes with learning by both the parent and child in life but some of it seems to start early with the basics and I’d like to start learning about parenting now.

So any books or resources that any of the moms on here have found useful on any subject - sleeping, eating, developmental concepts, etc would be so welcome by me as I hopefully embark on a path to motherhood.

Thanks so very much ladies.
