I tried everything and finally used a combo of APNO and gentian violet, which worked!!! Look on a Jack Newman's website, he has a great Thrush protocol.

So I've been giving LO Nystatin for 6 days and feel so much better. I have also been using APNO on myself as well as LO (as per my dr) since she developed a diaper rash. I can still see a little white in her mouth and still have a little bit of itchiness on my breasts every once in a while so I know we haven't beaten this yet. We're trying to keep everything sanitized and clean but it's tough remembering to only use a bra/receiving blanket/soother once! I am thinking of picking up some grapefruit seed extract - would I get that at a health food store?

Thrush is horrible!!! The only thing that worked for me was taking GRapefruit seed extract. It cleared it up pretty quickly and I was painfree.

Diflucan and prescription APNO. With a vinegar water wash of my nipples and an air dry after each feeding, that is what helped the most. I tried to be really good about everything else, but it's hard!

I also took probiotics for myself, added grapefruit seed extract to the laundry (and washed my nipples with a diluted mix also), would throw pacifiers into the dishwasher often, wouldn't wear a tank or bra more than once, and washed towels on hot. Also, I stopped using lanolin and those types of things - they seemed to make it worse.

The home remedy stuff never fully worked for me, and with just the diflucan the first go, it came back. But hitting it hard all at once cleared everything up.

So, I'm sure I have thrush. It's very painful when LO (10 weeks) latches and moderately painful during the feed and a bit afterwards. My nipples are reddish and sore.

LO is already on probiotics (for gas/colic) and shows no signs. I've started taking a daily dose of probiotics as well as using a vinegar/water solution after each feed. I've also done away with nursing pads for the time being.

I'd love some more insight/advice as I didn't ever deal with this with #1. I'm hoping I can get ride of it without having to get an rx. I've read most of the thrush threads and would love to hear your thrush success stories! What helped you?
