@bushelandapeck: i have the fisher price aquarium thing too, and when DS (18 mos) goes through phases where he wakes up to party, this keeps him entertained. I'll wake up and hear his music, and he's just chilling out watching it. If he's not crying, I dont even go in there.

we also have something similar to what @Dandelion suggested. It is a Fisher Price Ocean mobile that attaches to the side of his crib. LO turns it on when he is falling asleep and when he wakes up in the night/morning. It seems to help him fall back to sleep.

@MrsMccarthy: It is possible that he needs to eat more during the day. This is something I still struggle with my 3 year old. Somedays, he eats like a grown man, others he picks like a bird and wakes up in the night asking for something to eat.

My LO is 21-months and still wakes 2-3 times, so obviously I'm no help.

We finally just sleep trained. Although I don't know if you can really call it that because like your son, my daughter was waking sort of "just because," and would fall asleep without rocking, patting, etc., as long as she was in our room. The wake ups just got more frequent and earlier in the night til they were an hour or less after bedtime and that was it for me. The first two nights were hard (but not as bad as I thought they might go!) and I knew she was ready for it. (I don't see how she could have been ready before a year, honestly.) I knew our relationship was solid and could handle it. (Please nobody take offense to this..this is just my personal opinion and what worked for us!) I *think* we are in a good place now. I don't really have any advice but just saying you are not alone with the toddler wake ups!

@looch: he didn't want to nurse just to play. Maybe I should offer him some real food?

@bushelandapeck: I kind if suspect teeth or growth spurt because he looked taller to me this morning I kid you not!

Thanks ladies I'm hopin tonight is not a repeat.

our 12-month old has done this several times over the past few weeks. he wakes up screaming/crying so we go in thinking something is wrong, maybe he is teething, etc. but it became pretty clear that he was having a hard time falling back alseep and mostly wanted to play. i thought it was possibly because he was getting pretty good at walking around that point and also learning some new skills so his brain was in overdrive. it has been rough. now that i'm confident that it's not because he's sick or anything, i'm going to let him CIO or consider getting a nightlight type thing that @Dandelion: suggested.

How old is he?

Do you have a dreamlite or something similar? DS has had one for a few years and it helped at night when he woke up. He just turned it on, watched the lights for a while and went back to sleep.

Could he be teething? our LO is getting his eye teeth and I have noticed he's been waking more right before one pops through. He was awake from 2-4:30am two nights ago and all he wanted to do was play...I hope you figure it out soon!!

Are you cosleeping? My son does this every now and then...but it's usually because he is hungry and wants something to eat.

My son keeps waking up at around 2:30am just wanting to play or explore. I'm so exhausted. How can I get him back to sleep?
