Today we started our trip and I was pleasantly surprised with how well he did. Only one crying fit were we had to stop about 20 min earlier than planned. We did an 8 hour drive in 12 hours. Only two more days until our destination, but each day will only be about 3 hours of driving.

We drove 8 hours to the beach last summer when Chloe was 10 months old, and knew it wouldn't be easy so we broke our drive down into a two day trip. We made lots of stops, packed toys that were easily accessible, made sure to have lots of bottles/formula on handle that we're also easily accessible, and squeeze food pouches.

We drove about 6 hours and made it to our first destination, which was a hotel. She'd about had it at that point anyway.

We decided to drive home through the night, though, and left at 8pm. This way she slept through the night. It meant my husband slept the entire next day, though, to recover... But it was also much easier for us to travel!

We haven't done a long car trip since LO was 8 weeks, but our saving grace is the Baby Einstein Take Along Tunes. The music soothes her, and the lights get her attention. Good luck!

@ALV91711: good luck! We drove a 14 hour trip when our son was around 3 months. It actually wasn't too bad!

I'm doing the drive tomorrow with our 2 month old. We are taking three days as we are going all the way to the island. I'll let you know how we survive.

I'd like to know, too! We're doing two days of 6 hours driving each, & our boy will be almost 9 months. The first leg will be at night, but the 2nd day will be in the morning/early afternoon.

What kind of toys would you recommend?

I would make sure to take breaks and get outside in the mountain air when she fusses. It would hopefully distract her and tire her out a bit...so many beautiful places to stop on that drive! (I was raised in Calgary). Snacks and toys are good too!

We did it at 4 months, and it was pretty easy. At 8 months though I think it could be quite a bit more challenging b/c they don't nap as long, and are probably a lot less amused by sitting in the carseat. On car trips I tend to feed DD a lot of puffs, bring toys, and try to schedule long stretches of driving time around nap times.

Good luck!

Help! My husband and I are travelling from Alberta to BC in July, and have decided to drive since we just purchased a new vehicle.

We are taking our daughter (she will be 8 months at time of travel) to meet my side of the family and I am scared!

Has anyone driven for two days with an infant? What would you recommend to bring with us to help make the trip run smoothly, and most importantly, did you survive??

Any help would be great.
