So I attempted to follow many of your advice! I took him into our bed and snuggled. He was pretty calm, but REFUSED to sleep. He just played with the sheets or his feet or blowing raspberries. I even tried leading by example and pretended to sleep (which caused me to almost fall asleep twice)! Finally after being in bed with him for 1.5 hours, it was time to nurse him. And what do you know! 15 minutes on the boob and he passes out. So I dislodge myself and decide this is my only chance to hop in the shower. AND he wakes up after 10 minutes! Ugh! I cannot get this kid to sleep!!! After my shower, I decided to finish nursing him and figured that would knock him out again - nope! At least he's in a good mood now though. Not sure if I should bother trying again or not...

As an aside, a nap longer than 10 minutes *counts*. Can't remember where I read that though . . .

DD has periods like this every so often, and she's 2.5. It usually lasts just a day or two - if it's longer I know something's up, like teething, growth spurt, or dropping a nap. I try to keep her schedule consistent time-wise, and do whatever it takes to get her nap, by letting her sleep on me in the glider, going for a stroller walk, going for a drive, whatever. Sleep training didn't work for us until she was older, like 7-8mo. Hang in there!

@Arden: that's what we do-- or sometimes the swing. He is currently napping in bed with me. :) He rarely naps in crib, though. But I'd definitely give up in trying to get him to nap if he was crying like that, I think. Try again later, maybe.

@Arden: we do the same.

FWIW Baby Brother has also been very clingy this past week so I think it's just something they're going through right now.

I know we have different parenting styles, so I don't know if this would help, but Vi naps like a champ in bed with me. I nurse her down in our bed, and then I can usually leave.

Occasionally when she's extra clingy, I'll stay with her. I think she just needs the calming security of having me near. She sleeps very well with me.

my son use to do this to, would scream in his crib, I would bring him into bed cuddle him up with a blanket and snuggle next to him and he would fall asleep. maybe try laying next to him, maybe he needs your presence to fall asleep?

oh and don't worry about bad habits, my son grew out of it and was sleeping in his crib by himself completely for naps and bedtime by 8 months (but we chose to cosleep so it could of easily been sooner)

Well, it's been almost an hour, so I guess I'm just going to give up on the nap? But now I don't know when I should try for the next one... usually he's awake for about 2 hours and then goes down for a nap, but he's been awake for 5 now (with a 20 minute boob snooze, which I don't usually count). I don't know what to do... :(

Xander is 5 months. He used to go down for naps sooooooooo easily - turn on the white noise, do a half swaddle (swaddle from chest down), place in crib, walk away! He might fuss for a couple minutes, but he was generally out pretty quickly.

The past two days, he has REFUSED to nap and I'm at my wit's end!!! Yesterday, he went down for ONE nap, and then every nap after that, he just screamed and screamed until we finally gave up. The only "naps" he got was when he was nursing and he seemed to doze off while nursing for maybe 20 minutes. So he basically got one hour long nap and two 20 minute on the boob naps.

So now we're trying again today. He was due for a nap and I went grocery shopping. When I get home, he's crying hysterically and hasn't napped at all. Hubs thinks he's hungry, so I nurse him, and he sort of dozes for 20 minutes while nursing. Then I change his diaper, but he doesn't seem super lively, so I'm thinking he can still use a nap. I put him down for a nap, white noise, swaddle, etc, and the SCREAMING begins. I can't take it!!!

I've been trying to do Ferber, so I went in after 5 minutes and then again after 10, and he just doesn't stop crying!!! I just don't know what to do! Do I just keep trying? Is there a point where I give up on the nap? Why won't my baby sleep??? It's breaking my heart listening to him... :(
