I still haven't mastered sleep, so im one to talk, but at 6 months, I believe my kids were only taking 2 naps... Another nap at 4:45 would have been too late. What if you move bedtime half an hour up?

Good luck!

Agree with pp that you should try letting her work through the sleep cycle and fall back asleep. My LO definitely went through this around 3-4 months and every so often she wakes at the 30 or 45 minute mark after falling asleep and 90% of the time will fall back asleep for another hour or two...other times she has a dirty diaper and will not fall back asleep of that's the case.

I agree that her naps are too short to be restorative. My LO is only 4.5 months old and was starting to get in the habit of waking up after 30-40 minutes, which left him cranky and tired. I started to let him fuss for a while after he woke up and he eventually went back to sleep for another 1.5 hours each time. After two days of that his morning naps have been two hours long with no real wake ups. We also recently sleep trained at night so I knew he is able to self-soothe back to sleep.

One thing we did around six months when she started to be able to put herself back to sleep was to give her time to fall asleep after waking up from a short nap. Her sleep cycle has always been 45 minutes but when she woke up after a 45 minute nap, we found she was still miserable and cranky. When left for 10 minutes after waking up, she would squirm a bit, play with her dragonfly crib toy (this was HUGE in the process of teaching her to fall back alseep) and then fall back asleep for another 45 minutes and wake up happy. Now (9mo), she will barely flutter at the 45 minute mid-point, and sometimes she sleeps right through it. It's all so tough, though!

I second @Mrs. Wagon. This was about the age that we did the same version of CIO. We also gave up all forms of rocking to sleep at this point as well.

Our LO did have a pacifier and it seemed to really help. We did have to do some pacifier replacement in the first couple of hours of sleep as she wasn't able to locate the pacifier and get it back in her mouth in her sleepy frustration.

Are you rocking her to seep? By this age it was impossible for LO to remain asleep if we did this.

We had to do some CIO around this age to get rid of sleep associations.. We also went to a 2-3-4 schedule to make sure she was awake long enough before bedtime.

Are you still rocking her to sleep? We reached our limit with rocking and am doing CIO this week after an awful Sunday night. One link someone posted is try not to nap the baby after 4pm for a regular nighttime sleep. We also don't let our dude go more than an 1.5 hours of wakefulness between naps right now. She may need less awake time and more nap recovery time.

It sounds like her naps are all really short and probably not getting her any real restorative sleep during the day, leading to being overtired at bedtime and not being able to settle in for the night. Have you read "healthy sleep habits, happy child"? that really helped us. It did involve some CIO but we did it on a timed basis. We let him cry for 5 mins then went in and soothed him back to sleep... the next time he cried, we waited 10 mins... next time, we waited 15 mins, and all other times after that 15 mins. We only had to let him cry for 15 mins once or twice. It taught him how to fall back asleep on his own if he woke. It's not for everyone but it worked really well for Wagon Jr.

this sounds almost just like my 6 month old's schedule (he wakes a bit earlier than yours so the times are off just a bit.) i don't think her wakings have anything to do with what you did. you tried a late afternoon nap and she just didn't sleep.

maybe she's teething? i've also read around this time separation anxiety begins and so maybe that could be going on.

My LO is 6 months and she is up screaming for the 4th time since 6:30 when we put her to bed. She was absolutely overtired before bed and I need some input about what I could have done differently. Here is our day:
7:45- wake
9:45- tired signs
9:45-10:15- nap
12:00- tired signs
12:00-12:40- nap
2:15- tired signs
2:15-2:45 nap
4:45- no tired signs but tried to put down for a nap. Rocked her for 20 minutes but wouldn't sleep.

From this point we went along our usual nightly routine and she went to bed at 6:30 (earlier then usual 7 bed) she didn't show tired signs until maybe 30 minutes before sleep. At that time we hurried through bedtime things and got her down. Now she's overtired and waking a million times and I don't know what else I should have done. Help?
