@theotherstark: @birdofafeather: Great ideas, thank you!

@bees_knees: Growing up there were always multiple people in my class with my name, which was kind of annoying. Now that problem is fixed by virtue of working mostly with men, and I can just appreciate the benefits of having an easy to remember/spell name :silly:

@periwinklebee: I also have a common name...and used to regularly dream of a more "glamorous" spelling. Go figure! Ha

@Ina85: Thank you!

@bees_knees: Good point! My name is super, super common, so I have no idea where the threshold is that people start getting confused...maybe this kid will just have to deal with it :silly:

I don't have any suggestions for names, but wanted to chime in that even if you think you have a "normally" spelled (albeit uncommon) name, people might still butcher the spelling constantly :bummed: Our two boys have uncommon but familiar names (one is listed above) and for some reason people are always assuming they have unique spellings and throwing vowels in where they don't belong or subbing a "z" for an "s" 🙄 Anyways, all that to say--I was also worried about an easy to spell name, but after the experience with our first two boys we are throwing that stipulation out the window for DS3. We're having a hard enough time agreeing on a third boy name anyways haha

One of my husband's and my mutual friend's middle name is Olias (justin olias). I've always thought that was an interesting name without being weird.

DH and I were the opposite - he liked really traditional names and I liked more unique ones (although we have a super common last name, so I was trying to balance the first/last dynamic as well). Here are some that were on our list that we felt hit a sweet spot between the two:

Davis
Meyer
Grady
Clifford
Walter

ETA: I missed the two syllable requirement when I first read your post!

My son is Desmond. Easy to pronounce. Not super common, but also not "weird". Cool nicknames (Des or Desi).

He's almost 5 and no one has ever had any trouble saying/spelling it.

My husband and I have very different tastes when it comes to names, which is making it hard to find something that we both like! My husband likes names that are very unusual/unique. On the other hand, my main criteria is that I want the name to be easily recognizable as a name and something people where we live (U.S.) will know how to pronounce (and ideally how to spell!) People already get confused about how to spell/pronounce my husband's last name, and I don't really want to saddle our kid with that for first name as well. We do agree that we want something that is at least two syllables. Last name is one syllable.

In considering random lists of names, the closest we have come to something we both like okay - but neither of us loves - is Quentin. DH thought it was somewhat unique because of the Q and interesting b/c of Quentin Tarantino. I like it because it's a name and not hard to pronounce :silly:

Other ideas???
