We showed him how to hold it down so that it doesn't spray everywhere. After a few months, he wanted to pee like his daddy so he started peeing standing up. I love that he does it standing up because public restrooms are so gross and now he doesn't have to sit on the toilet seat. He's never had any issues with aim nor has he ever pooped while standing up. By 2 years old he did it himself. On his little potty, I taught him to sit forward/lean forward so his penis points down. We pushed his wee-wee (that's the word we used... no idea why) down for him in the beginning whenever he was on the potty. Also, if you teach them to lean forward while they're sitting, that helps them to aim into the bowl as well. After a week or two he figured out how to push it down himself. He still misses sometimes if he's in a big rush. And then clapped "YAY!" Adorable. Unfortunately he is on a soft seat on the big potty and so it sprayed right out at me. Lovely.</p> <p>How do you prevent the spray?</p> <p>I was told not to start him peeing standing up because then he might poop on the floor... so I suppose I'd rather clean the pee that the poop, but someone must make some pee-shielding device, right?</p> <p>How do you stay dry while potty training your son?</p> <p>(I'm taking this as his sign that he is ready to potty train. He is only 17 months but he's obsessed with the older kids in the neighborhood and at daycare.) </p>
