We just had a garage sale, and I agree with @zippylef, people always haggle, even if you have it priced super low! I would price it higher than you would sell it for. That also works for when people seem to be internally debating... so you can offer to drop the price to get them to take it.

@TemperanceBrennan: Yep, people are going to haggle regardless, so always price a little higher than you're willing to take.

@babyjmama and @zippylef: Thanks!
I hate negotiating. I wish I could just price them cheap and then people would just pay what I ask instead of pricing it a bit higher assuming people will haggle. Regardless of the price, people ALWAYS ask to pay less. It feels really silly when we are haggling over pennies. But people always want a deal.

I agree to price the whole set as a group and then let people talk you into separating. I'd probably price it at $300-400 but let people talk you down.

As for the sweaters, I would say price them a max of $5 each.

@TemperanceBrennan: I think w/the furniture you can price them as a group and then have them divided out if someone wanted them individually. I'd say $100-200 for the furniture if its in good shape...? The sweaters maybe $5 each? Just be prepared to negotiate ;)

Our neighborhood is having a garage sale and we've decided to put a few things out. I'm not exactly sure how to price the items so I was looking for some advice.

The biggest thing we want to get rid of is our old living room set. It includes a couch, love seat, oversize chair and ottoman. We got it as a hand-me-down from family. It is generally in good shape. I have no idea how much to ask. Do I price each item individually or as a set?

I also have several nice sweaters that I've hardly ever worn. How much do I price them at? They are better quality than most of the clothes we are putting out which we were going to price around $1 and be happy if we get $0.25.

Thanks for any help!
