Still have it real bad tonight. My loving husband is braving this arctic cold night to get me some Zantac so I could get some relief and sleep tonight.

It has made me non functional before I got it semi controlled. I've had to try a few different things and got the ok for Prilosec from my doc for both pregnancies- it's the only thing that works for me, luckily I only need it every other day. Milk is one of the few things that soothes it for me. I also sleep on an incline and don't eat after 8pm- that probably helps the most with the reflux at night.

I have GERD as well, and I'm normally on Zantac. It wasn't doing the trick for me anymore, so my doctor switched me to Prilosec. So far, it seems to be helping!

Other than controlling with diet, try putting something under your pillow to elevate your head. I've found that helps me, too.

Hang in there-it's miserable!

Thanks ladies! I had it all day and still not going away. I'm glad to hear that I'm not alone. I guess I'm just gonna have to wait for the ultimate cure, childbirth haha!

My doc had me take probiotics. I also didn't eat at night so I had time to digest. Oh... and the ultimate! Chewable papaya digestive enzyme!

Tums helped me, but I know it doesn't work for everyone. Just know that as soon as you give birth, the heartburn will be gone!!! <3

I drank tons of milk! Crackers and peanut butter seemed to help too. Unfortunately, nothing really stopped it until I gave birth.

Zantac max was the only thing that gave me any kind of relief and even that was hit or miss. Tums and pepcid did nothing for me. I took a zantac right before bed every night or I'd wake myself up vomiting. It was disgusting. I also slept on a incline to help keep my torso more upright.

I had extremely severe GERD with DS and pretty bad with DD. No amount of Tums or medication helped with Ds, but with DD I've found if I medicate an hour or two before I eat, the heartburn is relatively mild.

No spice, tomaToes, or anything remotely acid were the worst triggers.

I lived on Tums! I bought the extra strength tums and would take them just before I went to bed, as well as at any other point during the day when I felt the acid starting to rise. The effects didn't last long but it was usually long enough to let me fall asleep. I also slept on my side, propped up on four pillows, which also seemed to help. The good news is that once your baby drops, the heartburn and reflux should taper off. I'm 36 weeks tomorrow and I've gone from maxing out my tums dosage nearly every day, to only taking them sporadically (as confirmed at my appt today, the baby has dropped and is fully engaged). So hang in there, the light at the end of the tunnel is near!

Just had my baby yesterday, and now I believe everyone who said that birth is the cure!! :) I tried papaya enzymes too which seemed to help a tiny bit. So sorry you're dealing with this! I know how painful/annoying it is.

Eating chocolate is my worst trigger :-( my grandmother (who had a hiatal hernia sp?) swears by a few potato chips when her heart burn gets bad. She had her esophagus removed and her stomach was stretched to connect directly to the back of her throat. As a result she suffers from indigestion often. I have yet to try it. I feel like its a little to crazy to work, but she swear it calms it!

Chewing gum! Sounds weird but worked well for me whenever heartburn hit while I was pregnant. Hope you get some relief soon.

The thing that actually helped me the most was prenatal yoga. The instructor did some breathing and chest relaxing exercises that we're a great help. Good luck! I remember how miserable that heartburn was at the end.

I'm no help since you're doing what I'd suggest, but I'm sorry! My heartburn was terrible too, although I luckily wasn't throwing up. I often slept almost sitting up, tried to avoid acidic - tomatoes were the worst for me - and fatty foods and drank a lot of milk. The good thing is it all went away a couple of hours after giving birth, and I haven't had a tums since. Hugs!

Anyone have any advice on what to do with this unpleasant symptom. I'm 36 weeks and almost at the end of my rope. I have heartburn really bad that I end up vomiting. I've tried to cut out certain foods and take a variety of heartburn meds but nothing is working! Please help!
