Interviewers love to hear that you're enthusiastic about their specific organization and have done your homework--can you frame it as being eager to have an opportunity to work for a bigger company, or a company with a larger profile in a specific area/more of a focus on doing X or Y? Whatever specific attributes the new company likes to promote about itself could be a good hook.

Did you see a job posting that caused you to apply? If so, can you say that you were intrigued by XYZ part of the job posting and feel like that new challenge is exciting? That might give you a way to frame that it was this position that has you intrigued and not a general unhappiness!

@mrskansas: I don’t think you can mention the bad state of your current company. I’d just say you are looking to move to a position that will challenge you, allow your career to grow, has room for upward mobility at the company (but word it better). You are looking for bigger and better challenges and want to work in a growth environment.

I have a job interview today in the same industry I'm currently working in, doing what would be a very similar job. I do really enjoy my job and my coworkers, however I am deeply concerned about the financial future of my current employer. I work in accounting so unfortunately I can see that the current company is, for lack of a better word, hemorrhaging money. The job I'm interviewing for does pay better but I definitely don't want to say I'm just looking for more money.

I know they will ask why I'm looking for a new job and want to be honest without bashing my employer. I work in construction and it's a small "world".

Can anyone help with how I should address this?
