Okay, so here's my advice:

1 - Get rid of the pull up! Use diapers for now during sleep and once he's daytime trained use pull ups only at night.

2 - Find an incentive that works for him. Maybe m&m's aren't motivating enough. With DS we got him to finally poop on the potty by offering up t-ball outside after work/school. Find something he will do anything for, and then use that as the carrot.

3 - Ply him with juice, soda, popsicles, chocolate milk, anything to get him to need to pee often. We sat on the couch (covered with towels), had the little potty right in front of him and watched movies and drank chocolate milk for like 2 days straight.

Ugh I'm sorry... my son had NO interest at all until he just took off diapers one day and that was it (almost 3.5).... it's so stressful with the deadine coming up. We offered some pretty impressive bribes and they did nothing! So, we waited.

Agree with speaking with the daycare about the situation.

I'd maybe just keep talking about it and not pressure too much. GOOD LUCK!

@Mrs. Toad: interest in the potty and in sitting on it like mommy and daddy. She also started holding her urine for longer periods of time and seeking privacy while pooping in her diaper. The big one for us was that she started waking up dry in the mornings and after most naps, but that’s actually not that common for most kids until after potty training I think. You are going to be most successful if your child is interested in potty-training. Good luck

Thanks for all the help. We gave up when we could tell he needed to go and still refused. We were scared of a yeast infection or bad constipation.

We plan to call daycare and make a plan with them. I am not trying again until mid December unless daycare has some success. We will see his grandparents on vacation and maybe that will get him trained. Otherwise, I always have the week between Christmas and New Year's.

@mrsrain: What were the signs your daughter showed? DS can pull down his pants and sit on the toilet.

I am giving m&ms for sitting on the toilet. However, he is completely resistant. Putting him on the potty made him cry, even with the m&m.

My little guy didn’t like going commando but he was ok hanging out in his underwear at home. We didn’t go anywhere for 3 days and he got m&ms or stickers when he used the potty. He only went 3 times a day the first few days. It took him a week before he would poop in the potty.
Good luck! I know it comes on it’s own time and is so stressful.

My son turned 3 in July., He potty trained going #1 in a few days right before he turned 3. He was ready.

However, going #2 is still a struggle! He will do good for a couple days and then, like your son, just not care. He will now try to hold it through daycare, so we have belly aches too :( We are trying to get him more comfortable on the potty, but I worry it is stressing him out. No real advice, but I am in a similar boat.

I agree that you can’t force it. That said, here are things we did that helped:

Every time she sat on the potty she got an m&m.
Every time she actually peed in it she got a prize from a prize box that we kept in plain site. Going poop meant two prizes. Eventually we phased out the m&m and then the pee prize and, lastly, the poop prize. We set a timer and had her sit on the potty every half hour for ten minutes. Once she was actively using the potty (took a couple of days) we would set a timer for an hour after the last potty to try again. Then we started rewarding her when she could tell us that she needed to potty.

It took us about two weeks to get her fully trained BUT she was 3.25 and showing signs of readiness. Not sure how long it would take if she was completely resistant.

@Mamatimes3: @wrkbrk: @cyndistar3: Thanks for the commiseration. If I didn't have the daycare requirement, I would have already given up and bought more diapers.

We will continue today and see what daycare does tomorrow. I will just bring in lots of underwear and pants.

Unfortunately that's something that can't really be forced, bribery can sometimes help but if they don't want to they won't. Hope something clicks for him soon ad he decides it's something he'd like to do!

Ugh no advice but I’m dreading this. It’s
So annoying that daycare requires a certain age. Kids are ready when they’re ready and it’s all different. Good luck mama.

In my experience, you can't force potty training. I was having the same issues with my son who turned 3 in May. Mentally, he just wasn't into it. My pediatrician said to let it go. Children can control two things - what goes in their mouth and how it comes out. She said he was strong willed and would do it when he was ready. We'll just this week at 3.5, he FINALLY used the potty! In contrast, his sister at 18 months has used the potty more often than him. I know it's not really help. But you aren't alone.

DS is 3 years old and has no interest in using the toilet. We told him the last diaper was Friday night, and he immediately had a tantrum. Today, he never successfully used the toilet. He went in the pull-up or in his underwear. DS doesn't like to be bottomless.

He continued to ask for diapers. When I told him we were out, he wanted to go to the store to buy more. We have been talking about this for a while, and he has never been interested in potty training. We even have a book about it that he likes reading. He must be trained by January for daycare.

Suggestions or commiseration?
