it's always best to leave quickly. they usually only cry for a couple of minutes after you leave, and the longer you stay, the harder it will be for them.

charlie started daycare about that age, and he cried the first week. but soon he came to love daycare and we are so happy with our decision to put him in daycare over a nanny.

i know it's tough, but i promise your lo will love it in no time.

For me, the longer I stayed, the worse it got. The first week , will be hard and he will cry. DD cried a lot, but she would cry less every day. Sometimes I would call school to see how she did, or ask for an update at pickup. It's good to get a routine down. For example, you sign in, put away the lunch bag, give hug and a kiss, and then leave. They start to know what to expect. Even now with DS, 14 month old, if I linger for an extra minute, he realizes that I'm here and instead of playing with a toy, he gets clingy. So I try to get out of there fast. Be strong, he will be ok! :-)

My son is 18 months old. He has been going to a friend's house for daycare since he was 8 weeks old. Last week we started preschool 1 day a week for a few hours. Last week he cried when I left and he did it again today. We both went to preschool yesterday for the parade and he did just fine.

Should I be staying there longer? Today I held him, we went to the potty. He was fine when we walked out and I said goodbye and he started freaking out. I left and he was still bawling his eyes out.

I don't work during the few hours that he is in preschool. So, I could stay there longer if you think that would help. The preschool teachers try to distract him.

Any suggestions?
