I always like to give books, Aden and Anais swaddle blankets or Sophie. Did she get swaddle blankets or Sophie with her first? A lot of the second time moms I know had kids before those things were big/popular so I like to give them because I love them for my LO. But if she already has those maybe a baby board book basket with some of your favorites? And you could throw some small toys in there as well if you wanted!

For my cousin's son's first birthday I gave him a bunch of books because she told me he had SO many toys already. I feel like families can never have too many books

I am having boys that will be 17 months apart, so this is an area of specialty for me at the moment, haha! Do you know if the boys will be sharing a room or not? Ours won't, so there are several things I need duplicates of for the second nursery - changing pad, diaper genie, humidifier, sound machine, another camera for my baby monitor, etc. That's all pretty specific though, if you're looking for more general stuff I would say diapers and wipes, swaddling blankets (the A+A ones are really great - oh, or a dream blanket! I'm lusting after their dream blankets.) If you don't want to ask her I would say your best bet probably is something small and a gift card to BRU or Target or something so she can pick up some room decorations or things she might need duplicates of.

If she's planing to nurse what about a quiet time activity box during sessions for big brother?

Do you know anything they loved with #1 that you will will need duplicates of? I'm due at the end of August with my second and Also the same gender. But I need another sound machine machine for second baby, a toy hammock, diapers, wipes, a few new bottles and nipple.

New nursing clothing is always fun for mom. :)

My go to first birthday gift is a personalized puzzle name stool!

@Jess1483: hope this isn't too late!

We were in the same boat for a couple of my friends. We got her new outfits and some cute personalized stuff for the new baby; she said she appreciated having fresh clothes for #2.

I think it would be nice to have something personalized for the second baby (like a blanket with their name.)

One of our favorite/most used first birthday gifts was a craft box. Our BFFs got a wooden box, painted it red and attached the first letter of our son's name to the top. It was also labeled "Elliot's art supplies" on one of the sides. Inside they put finger paints, stamps, stickers, play doh... And they gave him a heavy duty art paper pad too. We loved how it was personalized and we use it all the time.

Baby shower wise....some new swaddle blankets are always nice, a gift certificate for a mani/pedi for mama, a Mother's One Line A Day memory book...

I am hosting a (surprise) shower for a friend having her second baby. It's very small (just 5 close friends), and none of us knew her when she was pregnant with the first (we've all met through our first child). We're having brunch at a local restaurant (and counting on dads so we can be child-free.)

I'm about to start TTC my second, so it should be easy to think about what I would need for the second (her DS is 18 months and she's pregnant with another boy), but I'm drawing a blank. I'll get something small for big brother, but then what else? If you've recently had a second, what did you really appreciate? (I tried to ask dad, but he's no use.)

Anything else to make the second-time mommy feel special?

Also, my niece is turning 1 and we're heading over to visit. Any suggestions there?
