We waited until the 4m sleep regressions o that the sleep was bad anyway so why not make some changes? I don't think it made it any worse at least.

We ditched the swaddle first because he started rolling to his side.

@Mrsbells: @agold: Thanks, this is helpful to know that they can be in there at 4 months. We'll probably wait this time around!

@Alba4: Good advice, I think we'll probably keep him in the swaddle for now. I wish we could have used the crib from the start! I really wanted to but he has reflux so we just ended up in the RnP all over again.

I would continue swaddling until baby can roll over. We just bit the bullet and put our kids down for all sleep in the crib starting at 3 months for DS1 and basically immediately with DS2 (he slept in the pack and play and then his crib). Both our boys are decent sleepers, but as you know, sleep comes in waves of good and bad. Sleep got better for DS1 when he could finally roll to his tummy and it only got good for DS2 once he started eating 3 meals of solids.

I don't really think I have any advice. But I kept my baby in the rock and play until the 4 month regression hit. It was also right around the holidays and her sleep skills just tanked. So I figured that it was a good time during all of that to switch her to the flat surface. I don't have any regrets. Good luck! ETA: I stopped swaddling her while she was still in the RnP. We had a late holiday night and I brought her home and didn't want to do the whole swaddle routine since she was already asleep. She slept fine so we haven't swaddled since.

@catlady: DS is 5 months now and we transitioned him from bassinet to crib at around the 4 month mark. we have a RnP but dont use it for night time sleep.
Its tricky, especially weaning him from waddling. but he gradually went from full on swaddling, to swaddling with one arm out and then both arms out. I was also tempted to just leave the status quo but I was terrified he would roll over in the night and not be able to roll back. from our experience we didnt have a hack or quick fix we just had to deal with him constantly waking himself up and we would keep putting the pacifier in his mouth. now he can roll from back to belly and belly to back so he is happy in his crib without a swaddle. but it took a few weeks of crappy sleep to achieve that

I'm trying to figure out how to time LO2's sleep transitions (basically from Rock n Play to crib, and also from swaddle to...something, maybe zipadee zip). He's 11 weeks now and sleeps fully swaddled in the RnP for nights and most naps (although recently I've been working on getting him to nap in the crib a bit). He starts full-time daycare in 2 weeks and I'll be back at work the week after.

I'm trying to avoid the horrible experience we had with LO1, where we transitioned her right around the same time we started daycare/work. That led to about a month of horrible sleep which got even worse after the 4 month sleep regression hit. At the height of it, she was waking literally every sleep cycle (8-10x per night). DH and I were destroyed and we finally had to sleep train at 5.5 months.

LO2 sleeps somewhat better than LO1 did at this age, so I can't shake the temptation to get him in his crib now before the 4 month regression hits him (if it does) but that would basically be the same timing as with LO1 and I wonder if it's too many changes at once.

I have no idea when he'll outgrow the RnP but he's fine for now and shows no signs of being able to roll over so the other part of me is tempted to just keep the status quo until after he's been at daycare awhile and possibly to ride out the 4 month regression. But I keep hearing that it's easier to transition them earlier than later so I keep going back and forth in it.

Just wondering what has worked for others.
