That's great!! My mom visited when DD was a week and a half old. She cooked tons of food, cleaned up her messes, fed DD while I pumped, and asked if she could do laundry. She made us go on a date one night (out to dinner), and I felt so at peace with her being with DD.

Whenever we are at their house visiting, my mom always offers to be woken up if DD needs to be rocked to sleep during the night.

Above all, she recognizes that all babies are different and never assumes something that worked with her kids will work with DD.

@Corduroy: that's awesome! :)

My mom and dad live nearby so they don't ever stay over, but my mom has been coming over to watch LO while I go to the gym and she always cleans up all the toys before she leaves even when I tell her not to! ;)

My brother was a great guest after LO 1 was born! He helped with everything around the house and stayed out of my way when I was stressed over my ftm stuff.

My parents live in our town, so they never stay at our house, but my mom is amazing. She always brings meals, and my parents will take DS at the drop of a hat (DH had the flu earlier this season, and I had been solo parenting for 3-4 days in first trimester. We went over for dinner and they said "why don't you leave him here tonight?" It was awesome. My mom watches DS often, and will usually clean the house while he naps (if she doesn't need to work.)

My in-laws will help with a project if we ask, but they don't dive right in and it's hard for me to ask. They usually want to take over childcare duties, which is wonderful some times, and other times I want to hold my own baby!!

We don't have guests often, but the last time my MIL visited, she cleaned my entire kitchen in an hour. I honestly don't know how she did it and it hasn't been as clean/organized since then, that's for sure.

My sister is an amazing house guest! She came to visit when I was 8 months pregnant and organized my pantry and bathroom cabinets. When we went home for the holidays during the 4 month sleep regression, we stayed with her for a night and we went out for our first post-baby date night, and then she took over night duties except feeding so we could get some rest.

My dad is also a wonderful house guest - he knows when to give us some space and always does yard work!

Yes!! This is so awesome.

My parents in law housesat when we went on a 3 night trip 2 months before T was due. They made us like 15 liters of soup, cleaned the house, and left floral arrangements (and watched our dogs).

When we were in the hospital for 5 days my MIL stayed over again and my house was the cleanest it ever has been, did all of our laundry and put it away, again left floral arrandgments and she stocked our fridge.

My Mom is helpful but my parents in law are off the charts amazing helpers, and they always have been.

Yay for awesome family.

How wonderful! I have parents and inlaws that are the "roll up your sleeves type," so I can relate....my dad's currently at my house with the electrician so neither one of us has to miss work.

that's awesome! My parents and my MIL are awesome house guests - they always do the dishes! haha, even though I tell them not to, they can't help but "tidy up" some (and more). They both live about half an hour away, so they rarely stay over, but my MIL likes to stay over if there is a snowstorm, and she will watch LO all day and make us dinner. Love her.

Amazing! Thanks for starting a post like this! :)

DH and I are very lucky to have both sets of parents nearby who are both VERY VERY helpful! My mom stayed with us on/off for the first month after DS and did many, many night shifts so that we could get sleep. She's also our primary caretaker, babysitter, etc. MIL buys us groceries, brings us meals, and both grandpas are DS#1's playmates! I wouldn't have survived the first trimester without either sets of grandparents this time. And am fully confident in their support when DS#2 arrives this summer!

DH and I've been able to do regular date nights, solo vacation, etc. because of both our parents' help and involvement!

My aunt stayed with me after my lo was born. She cooked and cleaned, so I just concentrated on baby. It's hard not to feel guilty though when your guest is doing all the housework!

Both of our parents are helpful house guests. We *do* have to squeeze into a 2 bedroom condo all together, so that can have it's small annoyances, but the good outweighs the bad.

My inlaws are currently with us for 2 weeks and sleep in LOs room, so I have done 0 wakeups (yay!), I haven't cooked a THING in a week, and I haven't had to take LO to daycare. It's awesome!

My mom is the same when she comes, except she does less cooking and more "projects" around the house for us, because she's very detail oriented and always asks for stuff to do. Like, she cleans out and reorganizes my pantry, helped me make curtains, etc.

That's awesomenes!!

My mom! When she comes she cooks and cleans without us asking. She came after both pregnancies and was so helpful. We barely cooked or cleaned or did laundry. She was on top of it all!
Don't get me wrong, there are still stressful factors. But my mom is a worker bee!

It seems like there are a lot of thread complaining about family and house guests (some from me regarding my in laws). I just wanted to post about how awesome my parents were while they stayed with me this weekend.

LO came down with a fever Saturday night and my parents took both night shifts so this pregnant lady could rest. When I woke up this morning my mom had her sleeping bag laid out next to LO's bed and they were singing songs. My parents are extending their trip to stay home with LO today so DH and I can save my sick days for maternity leave. I owe them a big thank you.

Anybody else have amazing house guests/family?
