At another Bee's suggestion I got my friend a couple little craft kits while she was in the hospital. She enjoyed them.

Maybe think about things she will not have time for once the baby arrives/she is back home? Would she enjoy a manicure set? Those paper facial masks? Does she have a hobby like knitting, scrapbooking, etc? What about a Shutterfly credit so she can spend some time making a photo album of her daughter before the new LO arrives?

If it were me, I'd love a good book and a cozy pair of reading socks. Maybe a book by Lianne Moriarty. I also love big books of puzzles or crosswords. Something to pass the time.

I was on hospital bedrest for three weeks when my water broke at 28 weeks with my son. These were my favorite gifts:

1. Dry shampoo and other hair things - lying in bed allllll day is uncomfortable with wet hair, at least for me it was.
2. If she can get outside food, that's was huge for me. I still feel depressed thinking about the hospital meals and it was SO NICE to have something real and yummy brought in.
3. Stuff to decorate the room - flowers were nice, but got old and sometimes are not allowed. I liked when I had some photos or other ways to make the room feel more like my own rather than I boring hospital room.
4. Someone sent me chococlate covered strawberries and they were delicious! Maybe that was just my mood that day, but three and a half years later I still totally remember those!

Good luck to her and she's lucky to have such a nice friend thinking of her! Clementine12:

I'd suggest bringing food and yummy snacks since hospital food can be pretty gross. If it seems likely that her baby will be in the NICU, I'd suggest bringing a nice, unscented hand lotion. Your hands get so dry with all the hand washing and hand sanitizing.

Does she read or have a kindle? Amazon gift card for books...
Is she able to get delivery from local restaurants? GC's for non-hospital food, or to an in-hospital coffee shop?

Good slippers or slipper socks. Any extra subscriptions you don't think she has.... Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime, HBOGo for media, and then newspapers or magazines that are behind a paywall, like NYTimes, Washington Post, the Economist, or whatever they might like reading. Maybe an Audible gift card if you think they like audio books.

I have a good friend who is in the hospital with a high-risk baby - they were originally going to induce her early but the baby is looking better so she's just been in the hospital for frequent monitoring. The hospital with the highest level NICU is far enough away from her home that she isn't able to see her husband or daughter very often. She's free to move about the hospital with just an IV port, but can't really leave the premises.

Any suggestions for small gifts I could bring to help her pass the time, or help her feel better about the time spent in the hospital? She already has puzzles and an adult coloring book.
