@chuckles: I really feel for you  My 2 year old DD just started daycare in Sep and caught a really bad cold with major congestion and cough. 4 weeks later and she still has a lingering cough. It’s terrible at this age because they can’t blow their nose and hate anything near it. She used to love bath and now hates it because of tje congestion and water on her face. The saline spray and nose Frida helped when she’d actually let us, vicks vapor rub, the plug in, humidifier, and boogie wipes were a life saver. It gets better but takes a long time so hang in there! Hope she feels better soon

ETA: I don’t know how close she is to 2 but our ped also said children’s Benadryl at night helps dry up the mucus if you’re really desperate. Of course check with your dr but thought I’d mention that

Thanks, all! I'm going to pick up some saline spray on my way home today and try it out. I'm worried that she might freak out about anything touching her nose at this point, but it's worth a try. Her congestion seems better today and she slept better last night, but her cough sounds horrible.

My 3 year old gets congested often and we use Flonase and allergy meds to help clear him out. Plus the steam and humidifier.

How does she do with saline spray? My 2.5 year old kind of likes it - I think she's figured out it makes her nose feel better. I let her play around with the spray bottle a bit before spraying her nose, so she wouldn't be scared.

My older kids totally hated it at that age though. She's the odd one out.

My 2.5 year old is just getting over a cold too. No fun. My husband and I pin her down and use saline spray and the Nose Frida. She hates it, but it works. Besides that we use the humidifier during naps and overnight and baby chest rub, although she's actually old enough for Vicks now I think...

@Chuckles: it helps for a little while, but it’s hard to know how much. I do know we get at least a teaspoon of goo each time, which I’m sure helps at least a little. And to your point about “no don’t” the flip side is what we had yesterday which was her struggling to sleep and saying “keep choking” (😭) and then post nose Frida falling asleep quickly. We only do it once or twice a day because because it’s traumatic for everyone but my daughter forgives quickly if there are m&ms around. She does tend to get runny more than stuffy noses though.

Lol @ netty pots, although my ped recommended a saline spray that you can shoot up their noses for stuffy nose, which I imagine is netty pot lite

@karenbme: also, hilariously, a Facebook friend without kids suggested we use a neti pot.

@karenbme: so you feel like the crying is worth it? I'd totally keep doing it if I felt like she'd be less congested. Although the last time we tried, as she was falling asleep one night, in her sleep she said, no mommy don't. :crying: I worried that I was traumatizing her. DD doesn't calm down right away, but maybe we need something better as a distraction. And hugs to you. Hopefully things will get better once their immune systems are built up more.

No advice, but I’m right there with you. DD was at the ped today for another cold related ear infection and would only eat applesauce for dinner because of her sore throat 😢. She also hates the nose frida but we literally hold her down to do it and then give her 2 or 3 m&ms as a sorry. The amount of goo that comes out of her nose is bonkers. Steamy baths and warm milk are the best things we’ve found and ibuprofen works better than Tylenol for us.

Our almost 2 year old has another terrible daycare cold. She absolutely freaks out about the nose frida, so it's not an option. The amount of mucus from the hysterical crying cancels out anything I can suck out :bummed: She can't quite blow her nose yet but is starting to get the idea. All the congestion has caused another bad cough and I think we're heading for an ear infection again. Any other suggestions for helping clear out her nose and sinuses? We've got the humidifier and steamy bathroom, but it doesn't really get the boogers out. Thanks!
