The biggest mistake I made while I was trying to heal like that is to put my shirt on too quickly, it would rip the new skin right off. I used the Medela softshells sore nipples kit, I looked ridiculous but it helped them heal.

And absolutely go see a LC, they will be able to make sure her latch is good :)

Use a combination of hydrocortisone and neosporin on your nipples. You have to wash it off before you nurse, but shoud help you heal.

This exact thing happened to me!

These are the things I did:

Try changing positions, to change the angle she is coming in at. Use pillows (I used a boppy, and it was magical!) to help support her. Rub milk on the nipples, let that dry and then put lanolin on. Try taking pain mess about half an hour or so before feed time, or you could try icing your nipple right before she feeds.

Definitely also try and see an LC, and don't be afraid to pump and bottle feed to give the boobs a break :) it took almost 4 weeks of only pumping and bottle feeding for my cracks (and literally, an open wound on one side!) to heal. But, we're 3 months PP now and doing amazingly! There is still hope! :) :)

take an advil? For real. is she having a growth spurt, that's the right age for it and it's hard to heal when they're nursing so often, even if nothing is wrong. I would try a different hold as well, sometimes it hurts less if they are latching at a different angle.

I've been there, it totally sucks, but it'll get better!

Definitely see a Lactation Consultant (and I second the Lansinoh)!

My LO is almost four weeks old and I'm dealing with the same problem, my nipples had finally healed but earlier this week something went wrong with our latch and I'm back to having pain at every feeding. I'm seeing an LC tomorrow morning so hopefully she has some solutions!

My Midwife suggested trying to change how I sit when feeding or try using different pillows.

Oh no! :( so sorry you're in pain... I definitely agree with seeing a lactation counselor to help figure out what's going on. Lots of lanolin/ nipple cream to help prevent scabs ( and I mean lots, pile that stuff on) and if if the cracking gets worse I personally would pump and use bottles until they heal a bit. Hugs!!!

Pumping will help! I had an infection on one nipple my first 2 weeks and had to pump. It helped me heal faster and kept my milk supply up. Don't give up. I agree about contacting a lactation consultant...they are awesome and SO helpful. Soothing pads, cream and a night nursing bra are must haves! Good luck :]

I also used the Earth Mama nipple butter, but i caved and bought the lansinol lanolin...honestly, it was so much better! I used it after every feeding, as i had some nipple damage (my LO sucked reaally hard). Also, try expressing some milk and putting it over the cracked nipple...breastmilk has some magical powers. :) I also pumped when it got really bad to give my nipples a break!

Pumping will help but how about calling a lactation consultant to check her latch first? Gel soothing pads helped me so much. I found them at the grocery store and they saved me during the first month of breastfeeding! You might just need to change her position so she's at a better angle and not pulling down on the nipple. It will get better! Keep up with the cream too!

Hi ladies.....

Minor desperation post!

DD is 3 weeks old today! Fed like a champ from day one, back at her birthweight after 5 days and currently growing like a cute weed!

This last week I noticed a crack on my nipple, and slight pain, made sure I was super diligent with my Earth Mama Angel nipple cream stuff, but today/tonight her latching is nearly the death of me.

I want to break in to BRU and buy a pump right now...

I did some reading, her latch must not be good? I tried getting her on nice and deep, but no relief..! Left side is worse than right, both got awfully painful in a hurry.

Anything I can do?

Would pumping and bottle feeding her help?

Ow!

Save me, oh man!
