@Foodnerd81: Oooh I had no idea about being able to get things "fancy hemmed". I'll definitely look into it if the buckle won't re-do them.

@Mrs. J: Yea.... I'm normally one to brush off messed up things but I just paid too much to let this one go.

@Mrsbells: Lol... that would be a stinky problem to have. =/

@smocks: Well that's good to hear that they DO generally last a long time.

I have the long ones in the wash right now so we'll see how they look in a couple hours. If they're still too long then I'll be taking them back tomorrow w/ the damaged ones to see if they can fix them hem there..... I'd rather have to not pay for it if I don't have to. lol

@runsyellowlites: Yikes, yeah they shouldn't be coming apart like that. DH has BKE jeans (one of the only brands we've found that look good on him at 36x36) and they've held up really well for the 3-4 years he's had them.

As for your jeans, I'd wash them, but they do seem like they'll still be a bit long...

I would take the damaged pair back, without or without the receipt. I received a pair of Lucky jeans for my birthday last year, and they developed a hole in the thigh right away, so I took them back and they gave me a new pair, which have lasted me over a year now. No way was I going to live with $120 jeans with a hole in them!

I would hem the long ones again after washing them.

Those do look too long but I agree that you should wash them (and dry, if you plan on ever drying them in the dryer) before getting them shortened. I HATE too short jeans, so I always err on the side of slightly too long anyway, which of course results in the bottoms of my jeans getting messed up since they hit the ground. Oops. But I would bring them to the original place you had them hemmed-- I know near me to have the fancy hemming done (where they re-use the original hem) it's like $25.

With the damaged ones, absolutely bring them back. If it is a good store they shouldn't have any problem at all.

@Smurfette: They actually haven't been washed! =/

@tororojo: Of course DH threw the receipt away, I just plan on exchanging them though so I would think there wouldn't be any issue considering they can't put them back on the floor like that anyways.

@runsyellowlites: Even if you have washed them, if the quality sucks you should be able to bring them back. Just hang on to the receipt (and tags if possible!) and politely explain what happened to the cashier, and ask for a manager if that gets you nowhere. If the pocket is coming off, there's no reason in the world for them to not exchange the jeans.

@runsyellowlites: I would return them if they are coming undone like that. No way after one wash they should do that. DH has a couple pairs from there, years old, and have held up really well.

I get jeans hemmed all the time b/c I'm a shortie. Those look like they will be too long, even after a wash.

@.twist.: @tororojo: @MsLipGloss: @Adira: Thanks ladies! I guess I'll go ahead and wash them and hope that they shrink up a bit. If they don't I'll REALLY try to go get them re-hemmed.... I'm terrible about getting things like that done. lol

TBH I'm really just trying to keep my faith in the jeans right now b/c the other pair I got is already damaged! I went to wash them yesterday and the threading that keeps the pocket on the pant is COMING UNDONE! I didn't wash them & plan to try and return them.

Ugh. I've heard such good things about these jeans so I FINALLY get some and I still haven't even been able to really enjoy them. =(

Here's what I found on my other pair yesterday.

It all depends on the jean - I've had jeans shrink an inch after being washed (and dried - if you air dry them, they most likely won't shrink at all). But other jeans won't shrink much at all!

I'd say wash them and see how they fit. If they're still too long, visit a tailor and get them hemmed - it shouldn't cost more than $15 tops and probably less than $10 to get them hemmed to the correct length! Well worth it for an $80 jean that you love!

Hmmm . . . it looks like you have more than a 1/2 inch of extra length in the hem. Is there a higher heel height you wear regularly? Otherwise, it looks like the seamstress needs to take an extra whack at the hem. It ultimately comes down to preference though, i.e., where you like your hem to hit.

That sucks that they're still too long! I don't think they'll shrink a whole lot in the wash, and even if they do they'll probably stretch back out when you wear them.

BUT you can always have them hemmed a little shorter later at a tailor. I would wash them to double check the length before hemming any shorter if they were my jeans.

So with Christmas money I finally invested in some pricier, BKE jeans from the buckle. Of course they didn't have my length in stock so the sales associate told me they could hem a longer pair for free. Yay! When I went to pick them up I of course forgot a pair of heels (was in total mommy mode) & even though I felt they were a bit too long I was assured that they would shrink about 1/2 inch in the wash.

I still haven't washed them bc I'm scared to death they'll still be too long & then I'll have thrown 80 bucks down the drain, a luxury we just don't have at the moment.

Any other ladies get their jeans hemmed/altered? Are they usually too long before you wash them?

Here's a couple pics of where they are now with heels that I wear. (Forgive the mess in the background, DS's room is the only one w/ a full length mirror & its his cleaning day)
