@Vegmama: It sounds like you have an internal roid. The most effective thing for me post partum was to take baths, and then to take tucks pads, put prep H on then, and then leave them between your cheeks for a while. Weird. But effective.

@.twist.: I've had both. When I have a little tear is just stings a little bit when I go. With roid it's almost like a dull ache all the time. For me anyway.

@locavore_mama: It's more tender right outside. And, I think it's more like a raised area than a bump ... Kind of like a mosquito bite (which I guess is a bump). It's not painful to touch ... or, it's more itchy than painful.

@Vegmama: I'm wondering the same thing.

How can you tell the difference between a Fischer tear and a roid?

Bumping this!

How does one know if they have a hemorrhoid? I've been a bit uncomfortable and itchy, and wiping is a little painful. I thought at first it was from having an upset stomach over the weekend, and having more than my usual amount of BM's ... now that it's Thursday, and my bum is still tender, I'm wondering if I'm experiencing hemorrhoids. No bleeding (that I can tell).

It may be worth going to the doctor for. I had what I thought were external, but were actually internal that had prolapsed (dropped down). It then developed into a thrombosis. Not fun. Once it has thrombosed, it will not relieve until after you deliver. You can fix the internal ones prior to them becoming thrombosed. This is not common, but still i would go to the doctor if it os really painful. I would pay a pretty penny if I could go back in time and go to the doctor before it became thrombosed.

Alternate warm baths and ice. That's the only thing that gives me relief. I'm terrified of what's going to happen during delivery.

That suuucks, I'm sorry! :( I had an external one a couple of months ago and the main things I changed were preventative--have been drinking a TON of water (like 10+ glasses a day), eating more fiber (4ish fruits/veggies a day + fibery cereal), doing kegels when I think about it and trying not to sit all the time. And I spend as little time as possible sitting on the toilet. In addition to Tucks and Preparation H, my doc recommends Anusol HC--I don't know what that is, maybe just another topical ointment. Good luck!

I've been told that once you get them in pregnancy you'll get them in delivery, and you'll have a problem with them from then on. I was also told to plan on having surgery once we're done having kids... joy :) In the meantime, I've been using this little gem, recommended by my doula:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002ATQQPC/ref=oh_details_o04_s00_i00

It's seriously amazing.

ack... i'm so nervous about getting hemorrhoids! i haven't had that issue yet, but i feel like it's bound to happen soon enough. i haven't felt any pressure down there from her yet, so maybe she's just being nice to mommy.

Same as you. I used witch hazel pads and Preparation H. Sometimes it would go away but it would reappear again. It was pretty bad after delivery but went away a month later. :(

Omg. I don't know how I'm going to handle 10 more weeks. I've had an external hemorrhoid for a week and I've been using Tucks and prep h cooling gel multiple times a day and it just seems to be getting worse. I feel like I'm going to lose my mind! What did you do for relief if you had one while pregnant? I'm assuming its here to stay for some time since the pressure from baby isn't going to stop any day soon.
