We had regular St Louis Ribs last night with the ribs from our heritage pig. The heritage ones were sooo much leaner & dense!

We do. We used to get kurabota pig. Now my family raises Hampshire/Yorkshire crosses, but they do it organic, hormone free and "free-range" (well, they have the option to go out of their pen). They also get massages and scratches behind their ears their whole lives. I think they are infinitiely more delicious than store-bought!

@T-Mom: @Bao: Yes, very similar. They are also typically grown by local, sustainable farmers, free to roam, not injected, etc etc,

@regberadaisy: I have no idea what this means, can you enlighten me? :-)

Is it akin to an heirloom tomato, for example, but for meats?

We just received our first order of a heritage pig last weekend.

My husband is smoking the ribs for dinner tonight. Can't wait!! So excited to see if it's really *that* much better. ;)

So far we've also had turkey and it is SOOO much better than store turkey!

Anyone else eat heritage breed meats when they can?
