I am also happy to let other people take her from me when we are out, but I'm a sahm and my family lives far away, so it's pretty rare to have that extra help. My dad held her for a really long time at lung once and was like, I hope that was ok. I was like, Dh and I both ate lunch with two hands while the good was hot. I used to refer to my nieces as 'mine' sometimes, and we're very close. My DS is 10 now but he was the first grand baby born in our family. My mother always called him "my baby" and still to this DAY (she just said it last week!) says "I feel like he's MY baby". OMG woman. </p> <p>And then there was this... when DS was a few months old, she was strolling him through a bookstore while I ran to the bathroom and got to talking with another mother in the childrens section. My sister says "my baby" so much that people literally thought she was pregnant again. But I don't care. I love her kids and always felt like they were mine too! I have a hard time understanding why people find it annoying. I feel like it's a term of endearment/love... my brothers always call LO "our little girl" and "our baby" and never once do I feel like they're trying to "claim" her or anything. At around six weeks we went over to her house and she made some comment along the lines of, "I've missed her, I feel like she's my baby," and I said something snarky like "I'm pretty sure all these stitches confirm that she's actually my baby." Recalling it now I can't believe I said that but she's never said it again. We actually get along great but I was very protective in the early days. My mom was with us for pretty much the 1st 7-8 weeks of the twins lives and she would get up to do night feedings with me, so she's earned it!
