I remember once when I was babysitting a 1 year old girl she wouldn't stop squirming out of my grip and moving around and she actually fell off the couch onto her head despite all of my efforts to stop her! She was totally fine, but did burst out into tears. I still have nightmares about it and I am dreading this stage with future lo!

Um I totally almost posted this exact same question 2 weeks ago!!! I felt bad that he was falling so much though and I got too chicken to post :)

Elliot falls and hits his head ALL the time. He never goes a whole day without a head bonk and usually it's multiple times. I want a padded house...seriously, it would resolve so much stress! I went on a spree and got rid of everything that I could see that he could bonk on but he still finds a way!

At our house we have playroom mates to put down on hard floors. It lessens the bumps. If I could just get him to stop pulling everything down we would be in business. This morning he pulled my new empty and clean trash can over he was not pleased. Yesterday he pulled a TV tray and laptop over when my mom was watching him. He was fine but unhappy that he was rapidly on the floor.

Haha we are entering this stage! She will pull up on something and her Hand will slip, and she will whack her face. Ay. She has also taken to sitting against the front of her crib and banging the back of her head off it, over and over, on purpose!

Awww I'm sure he is just fine! Gah, we are going to have an AWFUL time baby proofing our house. It's definitely not child friendly right now... I feel like everything is a hazard/has sharp corners/will somehow injure my kid.

F is only crawling, but he hits his head on our coffee table a dozen times a day. I'm so mean, I'm thinking "when will you remember the table is there?" My MIL visited recently and she must think we're the worst parents, because he kept bumping his head on our SILs pointing coffee table over and over.

A boy at daycare is cruising and has bruises all over his head! The teacher said they've been calling him Mr. Kinevel :)

omg the 8 month+ stage of charlie's life was so stressful. he hit his head multiple times a day even though i was always hovering around him to catch him when he was standing and cruising. he got so many head bumps!

but he is perfectly fine.

i never had that issue with olive because she was sooooo cautious.

We are going through this too although it has gotten much better. When she first started trying to cruise a few weeks ago (she's 10.5 months now) there were many more head bumps but now that she's gotten the hang of it it's much better and when she falls she goes backward instead of into the furniture!

Our son falls ALL THE TIME. It worries me so much too, but like your little guy...he cries for a minute, then gets up and plays like normal again.

And...I wish I were lying about this. My FIL watches LO once/week while I work from home the same day. My DH got home from work that day, and my FIL asked him if we've thought about getting S a helmet since he falls so much. Dead serious.

@hilsy85: there's sticky bumper pad thingies (m super technical over here!!!) at target that we are going to get. We put them on our tv stand and windowsills when she was just starting to walk, but now we need to buy the corner ones for our table & buffet. Both are eye level for her now, and she discovered she can run in circles through the house (joy) which means she slams into the table if she isn't careful :(

I was just going to post something about this as well! My son is doing the same thing, pulling up and trying to cruise then losing his balance. Gives me a heart attack  It happened yesterday at daycare (part of the floor is tile) and it happened again when I dropped him off this morning. I feel like I don't want to "baby" him when he falls so that he won't make a big deal out of it, but it hurts me to see it happen. Hoping this phase passes soon...

No advice but we are there too! She is very much a bulldozer right now, rolling over everything and anything that gets her her way. She also doesn't seem to realize that toys will not move out of her way so she tries to cruise over them, trips & falls, and gets mad. I think we just have to do the best we can and realize that bumps and bruises are part of the age!

Yes, and it gets crazier when they are walking! LO tries to run and he runs into stuff all.the.time. I think part of the reason they are in diapers is to soften the blow when they wipe out when they are walking and land on their bottom. :)
