DD fought hers early on, and gave them up completely at 28 months. She'll take naps in the car every once in a while, but no nap means early bedtime.. which is nice!

@Rainbow Sprinkles: when he doesn't nap we do the quick car or stroller nap (an hour or less) and then he goes to bed a little early. He seems ok with it it's just no break for me!

@Sammyfab: gah he only sleeps 11 hrs there is no way I'm waking him up or putting him down later noooo! I agree that he needs the rest period so will keep trying!!

Today I put him down 40 mins later today and he was hysterical and threw all of his stuff out of the crib so I went in and out it back in and told him time for nap and then he did go to sleep and slept 1.5 hrs.

My LO one takes one 30-40 minute nap a day, so I think she is close to ditching it. She still asks for it, though, bit apparently half an hour is all she needs for an energy boost. ;)

Is it bad if you just let him take that quick stroller/car nap, or does he act moody/groggy?

I personally wouldn't try to drop his nap now. Sleep needs usually drop at 2...or I've read that they go through a nap strike at this age. I would try any or all of these strategies:

1) put down for nap 15-30 minutes later...probably 30 minutes later.

2) reduce night time sleep by putting to bed 30 minutes later or waking him up earlier. Transferring sleep from nighttime may make him sleepier for naps. This would not be my personal choice though!

Regardless, I would stick with a 2-hr quiet time in the afternoon.

E just went through a phase of either skipping his nap altogether or throwing a party in his crib for 1.5 hours before he fell asleep. I would give him 2 hours to fall asleep and if he didn't I would get him up and deal with a cranky toddler. It looks like he's turning a corner and back to going down easier now after about a month of creepy naps. I hope it's just a phase for you and T.

My Story is much the same as @Sandy. Pushing the nap later definitely made a huge improvement. We still have no nap days on occasion and I know almost immediately that he won't sleep. I do leave him in there though. He stays two hours and plays/ sings. Then I move dinner and bedtime up an hour. Moving the bedtime up an hour has been harder now that it is light so much later though.

C stopped napping in December. :/ she would fight and fight and it got to a point where if she took one, bedtime was a nightmare. She just does all her sleeping at night now, and she takes one every once in a while.

@Lindsay05: if he doesn't nap in his crib he will fall asleep the second we leave the house in the car or stroller and if he sleeps under an hour is a disaster! We have never had an actual no nap day because we rarely stay home in the afternoon!

@sandy: interesting! I think if he slept much later like 830 I would be ok with no nap. Ok probably not lol.

This started for us around 2. She naps 3 days and doesn't nap 1 day and naps 4 days and doesn't nap 1 etc. she wakes up around 7:30 but sometimes as late as 8:30. Most days I put her down at 2:30 and leave her for at least 2 hours. Most days she falls asleep within 20 minutes...and then sleeps for 3 hours. I get her up by 5:30 so we can have a 8:00 bedtime. On the random no nap days she has 2 hours quiet time and dinner is moved an hour earlier and bedtime is moved up an hour earlier. She falls asleep ASAP. I'm going to enforce quiet time as long as possible until it starts interfering with bedtime. She's almost 2.5 years old

Now, several times a week, my son (who will be 2 in two weeks) fights his one nap.

He sleeps roughly 11 hours at night and wakes at 6:30/7 and nap is always at 1 (in his crib around 12:30/12:45). His one nap is only 1.5 hours and it's been this way since we went down to one nap. Occasionally he will sleep 2 hours. He always takes 20-30 mins to fall asleep usually happily plays and then conks out. On the days he fights the nap, he plays for 45 mins to an hour and then gets annoyed and yells that he needs something from me. He'll toss his lovies and pillow out of the crib, take off his pants, etc. Then get angry and cry for awhile. The other day I left him in his crib 2 hours (with one check) and he didn't fall asleep. But then the second we left the house he fell asleep in the stroller. Today he's been in there 1.5 hours and there's no sign he is taking a nap.

Should I just start putting him down later? Please tell me he is not trying to get rid of his already short nap?
