@Mrs. Blue: @Ree723: @spaniellove: @Kemma: these were our thoughts as well but I was just making sure I wasn't being overly cautious because he can still go to daycare. The dr office and daycare said he could continue to come and that they don't keep them out for HFM unless they have a fever, uh what?

Having just survived a round of twin HFM, I vote don't go. Neither DH nor I got it, but I wouldn't want to risk it because our boys were realllly miserable and I hate to potentially give that to anyone, especially a pregnant person.

It might be best to avoid the baby shower and explain why. Although it's never black and white whether you should, pregnant ladies will appreciate it. When I was first pregnant I had a relative whose LO who might have gotten something that was harmful to pregnant women and they avoided a gathering, which I was really grateful for.

I've been in this situation but it was DH who had HFM and we all stayed away from any social gatherings (incl my coffee group 1st bday party - boo) for a good couple of weeks. I'm sorry and it sucks but I think it's the right thing to do. Hope your LO gets better fast!

I'm not sure about the risk to pregnant ladies specifically, but I know HFM is extremely contagious for adults as well as children, so for that reason alone, I would not go. I think there is a considerable incubation period for the virus before symptoms show up so even if you're feeling well, it's not a guarantee you don't have it. I'd err on the side of the caution and not potentially expose others unnecessarily. I'm sure the mother to be will not be offended in the slightest if you explain why you won't be attending.

Hope your DS feels better soon and you manage to avoid coming down with it as well!
