I had a similar mini freak-out recently. My husband basically talked me off the edge and told me they were just big bites. They looked awful, but it was really just 4 or 5 bites.

@Foodnerd81: I'm not positive, but I think with HFM, the dots are completely flat, not really like a pimple, so I'm guessing that's not what it is. But even if it was HFM, I agree with @sslm: that it's usually not contagious anymore by the time the rash shows up.

@Adira: not really raised but a tiny bump. Really like a little pimple.

Glad it sounds like it's just nothing (since we did go to the children's museum this morning- obviously not that worried about it).

My son didn't have a fever at all. It started on his booty and we thought it was just a diaper rash but the next morning he woke up with it around his mouth, on hands and feet. It was pretty obvious what it was. I think if it comes and goes it doesn't seem like hfm and you're okay?!?!

Not sure but my LO gets random raised red spots all the time.

When LO had HFM the doctor said the spots would concentrate in areas of friction. Hands and feet for toddlers, hands and knees for crawlers, butts for diapered babies. Based on that I wouldn't be too worried about back of hand and cheek.

@Foodnerd81: Even if it is HFM, from what I understand once the rash shows up it is no longer contagious anyway!

Are the red spots raised at all?

With Xander, he didn't get the fever or any crankiness before he sprouted off with HFM spots all over his body, so I had no idea he had it and was contagious until it was too late.

C has generally been healthy for a while- a little stuffy runny nose that every toddler has, occasionally waking up in the middle of the night but sadly, that's normal. No fever.

She has had a couple of small red spots, almost like tiny pimples, on the back of her hand and one or two on her cheek. The face especially actually seems to come and go.

So, just random red spots right? I'm not infecting all the kids she comes in contact with with Hand foot and mouth?? She's not in daycare but goes to enough things with other kids that she can pick up random viruses.
