@Emsmems: not unfounded at all, I had the same worry! But surprisingly, they do begin to have a circadian rhythm that tells their bodies nighttime is different. That being said -- my LO certainly didn't sleep through the night, but the 4 hour first stretch still happened every night no matter when bedtime ended up being that day. Honestly, it kind of makes me marvel at our bodies and made me appreciate my own sleep/wake cycles more! Also, try not to listen to the peanut gallery and trust your gut -- you've got this!

@Seattlemom: @MamaMagpie: ok, that makes sense. So still only go 1.5 hours of last nap awake time to bedtime, right? My only worry is he'll just wake up again in 30 min thinking it's another nap. Is that unfounded? We do the same routine for naps and bed, with a bath about every 3rd night (but always a massage, white noise, nurse, rock, bed... We'll tackle "drowsy but awake" in a little while!)

Thank you, I needed the encouragement! I feel pressured to have him sleep more at night (for my work days as well as just peanut gallery... Especially people AT work), but I KNOW every baby is different!

At that stage, I based everything one when his last waking was like @Seattlemom: recommended. It did kind of drive me crazy that it felt like there was no set schedule, and I often worried that we'd never get to a place where we could "count on" a timed routine, but we eventually did! One thing I remember is being awed by how quickly the time in between sleep sessions went by and I would also question myself when starting the nap routine, thinking "he's not acting tired...there's no way this nap is going to happen" and then it always (mostly) would! As long as we stuck to the max amount of time he could handle being awake, we were good. Also, we do the same bedtime routine for naps and nights, but have a bath every night (sometimes we don't use soap). At first, it didn't seem to make a difference, but now when we sing the bathtime song he starts to rub his eyes!
Good luck, mama, you are doing great!

Yup, I would try to move bedtime up again. Maybe start with 730pm and see how it goes. You can base it on when he last woke up. So if he happens to wake up from his last nap of the day at 5pm, then put him down for the night at 630pm, etc.

Ok, sorry for another post about sleep, but I've gone back to work and getting DS to sleep well is suddenly very important! And you ladies are so knowledgable! Sorry this is kinda long!

I posted earlier about his sleep getting worse at night, and many of you suggested moving up bedtime (http://boards.hellobee.com/topic/ugh-how-do-i-get-this-kid-to-sleep#post-1556247). I did move it up to 8, and his sleep improved a lot! Back to 4+ hours the first stretch, then 3.

Now, I've been focusing on naps. I pay closer attention to DS's sleepy cues and have realized he was often overtired and needs to nap more often (1.5 hours is about as much awake time as he can handle, followed by 30 min naps). His mood has GREATLY improved throughout the day! But his night sleep has been worse.

So my question, do we need to move up bedtime even more (he gets up for the day about 700)? Or not nap into the evening so his night sleep is better (last nap has been at 5:30-6 ish with bedtime at 8)? Or do I just need to shut up and deal ;)
