@nana87: yes it’s very obvious when it happens. It happens if I’m trying to put pants on in a vehicle. Lol don’t ask me why but I was changing my pants and it happened. Like I mentioned, I have never have been followed up with it medically so I just avoid any movements that may cause it to happen.

@Lindsay05: @Mrs. Snowflake: @Anagram: I'm sorry you all have had stomach issues too, it sucks!!

@Lindsay05: this might be tmi, but how can you tell if it's bulging? I feel like there are times I feel an extreme pinching feeling but I don't know if I just think that it's the hernia now that I know I have it...I asked my gastroenterologist if there are exercises I should make sure to do or to avoid and he said there wasn't anything specific

@Mrs. Snowflake:ugh that sounds rough!

@Anagram: I used to avoid tomato and curry since I knew they made my reflux worse, but I can tolerate them better on meds now lol. Im not really avoiding dairy or gluten now, just replacing some meals with vegan/gf ones (I'm already vegetarian)--I started getting meal delivery service from Hungryroot and it's helping me get more fiber. But I still drink milk in my coffee and add cheese to things, and bread/pasta are delicious and my favorites, so....

I've had GERD for much of my adult life. Right now I'm on Dexilant, which is great, although it does cause very mild stomach upset (mild meaning.....like a gurgly, maybe gassy, feeling within about 2 hours of taking). But still it takes the burn out of my body, which is nice.

I've never had a hiatal hernia though. I did have an esophageal stricture from my GERD though--I had to have a little procedure to open all that up, but since then the Dexilant has kept it all in check and my last scope was really good, my stomach lining looked way less irritated, etc.

I've cut out dairy and gluten before and it doesn't affect my reflux at all. Cutting down acidic/spicy foods helps (like tomato, garlic and onion, curry, citrus, coffee and tea) but those are basically all my favorite things, so I never manage to cut them all out for long.

I'm currently experiencing pretty awful GERD caused by my gastroparesis and all the puking :( The two together has been miserable.

I was diagnosed celiac postpartum after my second. I also realized that I have a hiatal hernia as well. Nothing has been done for it as far as medically but it does bulge if I’m not careful.

Has anyone dealt with a hiatal hernia and/or GERD postpartum?

I finally was diagnosed this fall after still having all the unpleasant digestive symptoms associated with pregnancy still 18m+ after lo2 was born--heartburn, gas pain, constipation, fun times lol. Basically, lo2 pushed all my insides around and they never went back to normal. I've been on pantoprazole since August and it's helped a lot, but I still feel uncomfortable sometimes. I've also had some luck with adding fiber supplements and some cutting back on dairy and gluten. My drs don't seem terribly concerned about the hernia and mostly focus on reducing the acid reflux, but I wonder if this is going to be a chronic issue

Just wondering if anyone is in the same boat postpartum and has advice to share!
