Have you tried a clip on chair? I don't think the glass would be an issue since its supported by the wood below. We hook ours onto our counter bar.

If not, I think the booster on a chair is your best bet.

Does the bloom and/or Boon really go that high? I ask because DH and I looked at it in the store, and didn't think it went up very tall.

Have you seen those tie on high chairs? would that work with one of your chairs?

ETA: This is what I'm talking about.

Would the boon high chair work? It's cheaper than the bloom.

We have a breakfast bar at our kitchen island, DH and I sit at the bar, and Prettybaby sits in her bumbo on the counter part of the island looking at us. She is super small for her age so the tray hight on the FP space saver and the actual high chair we have are just to high still.

I say (as long as you are sitting there with her) plunk her in the bumbo on the table in front of you, then when she gets older, you can do a booster on a chair with a cover under it to protect the leather.

I think if it were me I'd just get a booster for the chair and protect the cover somehow...

Thanks for giving me some new points to consider!

@Mrs. Yoyo: Very good point about tipping the chair. Ours are really heavy, but BabyEllie is a huge kicker, and 36" is a long way to fall.

@Mrs. Superhero: I hadn't thought of the plastic; that's a really good idea. I also might have a plain wooden chair made to match our table (no seat cover) if I go the booster route.

@rawrasaur: I love the look of the oxo tot chair - that would probably be my top choice if I weren't dealing with the height issue.

I personally would buy the pricey high chair. That's cheaper than having to possibly replace/recover your dining chair.

Ugh, we have a bar height table, too. And the chairs for it are just stools without backs. I would never have picked it, but DH's parents bought it for him when he moved into his first place a few years ago. It is a nice table, but also has drawers under it so we can't attach any clip on seats or anything. It is basically as un-baby friendly as you can get.

We got the oxo tot high chair and will deal with the height difference when the time comes.

@Mrs. Superhero: that's what I will do.

@PinkElephant: we have a high table like that as but no glass so we're doing the clip on chair.

Use a booster and cover your seat cushion! I've seen people make slipcovers for them out of vinyl and my cousin wrapped clear vinyl over the fabric cushion of her recovered dining room chair (does that make sense? It looks like the rest of the chairs but has a shinier seat)

I got a pricey highchair and love it, but I know a lot of people will recommend the booster. I guess I'd be a little scared of putting a wiggly baby that high up in something potentially less stable.

I do think that even if it is no biggie now, you will want the babe at your level soon.

Picture it: Hubs and I have just gotten married and are buying our first set of real grown up furniture together. We fall in love with a gorgeous pub-height table. I won't go into obsessive detail, but we had it custom made for us, it wasn't cheap and reallyreally like it (aka we don't want to sell it and buy a new table). Unfortunately, it is about the least baby friendly decorating decision we could have made...fast forward 2 years to life with baby, we need to add a high chair, and now I've got a (design) problem!

Currently we're feeding BabyEllie (not her real name, btw) her daily solids in a Bumbo seat on the floor. But as she eats more often (and as her meals start to contain messier, stain-prone foods), I'd like to get eating at or near the table top, which is about 37" off the ground.

It seems like the simple solution would be to get a clip-on chair that attaches to the table itself, but our table has both a wooden "skirt" along the bottom and a tempered glass "topper" over the wood due to the fact that there's a cut-out box in the center where we display seasonally appropriate stuff (eg, I'm about to switch from wine corks to Christmas ornaments). Sooo...I don't think the clip on option will work. Realistic options seem to be:

- Pedestal style chair (like the Bloom Fresco) with a pneumatic lift - the chair would be level with our table. I like the look of these chairs, but they cost approx. $250-$500, which seems kind of crazy for something that is going to get food all over it.

- Booster seat (like the Fisher Price Space-Saver) - my only concern is that the base of it might be just slightly too wide for our chairs, or that it might damage the seat of the chair (leather). But aesthetically, I'm fine with a seat like this.

- Pick a random high chair that isn't hideous or ridiculously expensive, and don't worry about whether it is level with the table for now. If I go this route, when baby is bigger I'll probably use a fabric TotSeat on one of the adult chairs for her.

On top of all this, BabyEllie is pretty tiny for her age (4.5 months, looking to start the chair by 6 months), so I don't even know if the SpaceSaver or TotSeat will be a valid option for awhile, even if they do work with our table. ACK!

Apologies for the long winded post....can you tell I've been obsessing about this?! Any advice about the tall table situation or these types of high chairs in general will be VERY appreciated.
