i don't have any recs for specific high chairs, just wanted to pop in and say:

1. we've never used the recline feature on ours. by the time we started solids he sat up fine without really leaning on the back of the chair anyway

2. if i could re-do my high chair choice i would have gotten one with no fabric. our chair has fabric that completely zips off and is machine washable, but it's such a pain to zip off and wash and put back on. i wish i had one that was just plastic and wipeable!

3. our chair folds up enough to fit in our trunk and come with us when we road trip. it's handy, but i don't think it's necessary

and bonus 4... i've heard amazing things about the phil and teds poppy. i would probably get one of those if i were buying another chair right now.

IKEA Antilop! It's small, attractive, light weight, easy to clean, and incredibly inexpensive.

I have the joovy one that folds up. It doesn't take up a whole lot of space when open and I love that I can fold it and toss it in the corner when LO isn't eating.

@Foodnerd81: We have the Stokke Tripp Trapp and I love the small footprint of it. If I take off the optional tray (very easy), it slides right under our table or counter. If I didn't get the Stokke, I would have gotten the OXO Sprout probably!

@grizz: I'm dumb- I was thinking you were talking about a hook on chair. That looks like it really could work. Is it the right height that it could be a chair at the island, without the tray?

I like the stokke. I got one on craigslist though and little did I know it is an older model not compatible with the baby set. Anyway it has a remarkably small footprint and I like how it pulls right up to the table.

We have the Phil & Teds Poppy at our island bar, and I loooooove it! It breaks down so easily and stores in a tiny space, and you can throw the seat in the dishwasher. Win.

We have the OXO tot one and it blends nicely with our backless barstools at our counter. I think ours is deeper than 12 inches, but we can slide the chair under the counter. The footprint is the same width as our barstools. I love that we can tuck it away. I removed the cushions, so it wipes clean easily. The cushions actually wipe clean, but my LO would get food on the backside of the cushions which does not wipe clean easily. I also own the antelope and like it for travel and outdoors, but would not want it to be my everyday chair. My LO is big, but at almost two he no longer comfortably fits in the antelope. Again though, he is big.

@Foodnerd81: I think so. LO was fine in it, though she was a bit early in her core/neck strength development. They do sell a little padded cushion if you wanted extra support, but receiving blankets could serve the same purpose.

@Foodnerd81: they sell a cushion that goes in it that we used at first to help DS in it. It gets gross but you can throw it in the wash.

@Weagle: So a 5 month old baby could sit in the Ikea chair comfortable? She likes to stand but isn't actually great at sitting yet (part of the reason we are definitely waiting on solids anyway).

No input on a clip on chair, but just wanted to throw out that I've never used the reclining feature, and I much prefer the high chairs without any fabric or padding. My favorite is actually the Ikea Antilop because I can literally hose it off outside, but it's not necessarily small. The chair we use at my parents house folds and it's nice to slip between the fridge and wall, or other tight spaces for storage.

FIL wants to get us our high chair for Christmas and wants us to tell him the specific one we want (yay!). I'm having a really hard time deciding what we want though. We have an open kitchen/living room, with no table, just a big kitchen island with counter. We have backless bar stools at the counter, so the FP space saver chair is out. The counter has a 12 inch depth and no real lip.

Do you think a clip on high chair or free standing would be better in that situation? I was thinking of the Chicco 360 one, so I could feed her from the side-- with a regular clip on, how would I feed her since the island is pretty wide across? But I think the 360 needs more the 12 inches.

Also what features were important in a high chair? What about reclining? Is that necessary? Being able to fold up seems like a nice feature, as well as being easy to clean (another concern I have about the clip ons).

C is 4 months (today!) and we wont start solids for a little bit, but it would be nice if she could start sitting and watching me in the kitchen I guess. I will probably do a combo of purees and BLW, though I haven't really researched it yet.

Any recommendations? And anyone have the Chicco 360 one and can tell me the width and depth of the hooks?
