@hilsy85: The little legs pull way down and I haven't had a problem putting in on tables w/ lips (though MIL has the inglesia and so I know exactly what you are talking about -- that doesn't pull down far enough).

@winniebee: we looked at the clip on chair, but our dining room table has a ledge/lip under it, and it looks like those chairs don't work in that case. I also looked at the space saver chairs, but DH didn't like the look of them.

If u are super crunched w/ space, maybe just get a clip on chair (we have a chicco) or there's a fisher price seat that has a back and all, and you just strap it on top of a dining room chair.

@skibobrown: ahh a splat mat, that's smart. If we had a separate dining room we would do something like that, but there's really no place for us to put one where people won't be walking. But I guess that's an issue with any high chair, since kids throw stuff off it regardless of the type!

We have the Tripp Trapp and never purchased the accompanying tray. DD just eats pulled up to the table with us. She doesn't make as much of a mess as she used to, but we do have a plastic splat mat laid out under her high chair. I'm guessing it will be staying there for many months to come. In general, we love the Tripp Trapp, and I like that we'll be able to use it for many years to come, given the price tag.

We have the Tripp Trapp and we currently use it with a tray. We are currently in a rental and we eat at the island. We will be moving into our house in about 2 months and we will use it with our dining room table. We didn't get the cushion wasn't really necessary, I love the clean design and how easy it is to clean. I love that it grows with LO.

@hilsy85: Not at all. It feels sturdy to me. It is pretty light, but the legs are metal and it takes a bit of force to get it to lock.

We have the Boon and we live in a small NYC apartment. It's great and no crannies for food to get into. And sometimes we pretend she's in Star Trek and wheel her around in it.

@red_seattle: hmm ok! Back in the running... :) Sounds like we have a similar layout--our "dining room" is a space against our wall.

I think I need to make a trip to BBB to see these in person and get a sense for how much room they take up.

We have the Boon one, and love it. Don't write it off yet. To explain, we have a 760 sq ft house, and our dining room is maybe 7ft x 4ft? Probably smaller than that. And it's basically just an open area on the side of our kitchen, and opens to our backyard, so it's a high traffic area. And nothing but the Boon would have worked because (1) the base has wheels, so it's easy to move around the kitchen/dining room (our house feels like a real life Tetris game with how things have to move for us to have space), (2), the base slides under our table so when not in use, it takes up no more of our "walking room" than our dining chairs when pushed up/under the table. Nothing else would have worked in our little home so well.

Other reasons I love the Boon chair is that we have a tall bar height table, and because of the pneumatic lift, it can be raised to table height, and it is SOOOO easy to clean.

@T-Mom: Before we had our baby, one of our good friends had lunch with us with their 10 month old and that's what they used and just talked it up so much that we used it without considering getting a traditional high chair at all. :) We never looked back. Hehe.

@hilsy85: I have to add that we used our peg perego high chair for when DS was first on solids.. We already had it and I agree that having a tray is easy to clean. Since he's self feeding now he sits in the tripp trapp. You could look into the tray? The traditional high chair had a short lifespan in our house. They could not wait to get out of them!

@T-Mom: @MamaMoose: hmm I guess I'm wondering how this works when kids get into the "put their hands in all the food and throw it everywhere" phase...i feel like I'd rather have food on the floor/a high chair tray than all over my/DH's plate. I do like the idea of all eating at the same table though...

@hellobeeboston: I thought about that but our table has like a ledge under it, as does our breakfast bar, so I don't think we would be able to use it... :( I'm sad because that would be an easy solution!

Another vote for the sprout! Aside from everything already mentioned, LO could sit comfortably in it at 6-7 months when we started solids. Our in-laws bought a Chicco high chair to keep at their house, and LO just didn't fit that well in it (at least during the holidays when she was 8 months).

I wanted to put it out there that we went an untraditional route of having a booster that hooks onto a real seat.

We live in a small condo and this worked out well for us, and it's cheap! Normally priced between 26-28 dollars. We have two, one that is prementally at home on one of our dinning room chairs and one in the car when we eat out.

Also we have one at my in-laws when we visit, we normally fly to them and so we bought one at target when we went to visit for xmas and left it there for future visits.

Just thought I would put this option out there for you. We love it! :)
