@erinpye one of the problems we are having right now is that all of a sudden Lily doesn't want her daddy to hold her only me! She's almost 6 mos (next week) so I'm thinking it has something to do with separation anxiety, but it's exhausting!
@brownie we are becoming the same way with attachment parenting! DH and I never wanted DD in our bed, but I think we are finally surrendering to the fact that it is the only way she sleeps well!

Ours is extremely high-needs. No one in my family has ever experienced such a fussy/ colicky baby before. She cried non-stop for the first 4 months of her life. She would only be held by me, not even her father, hated being swaddled and we stopped trying very early, has still never slept through the night at over 6 months old, there were many days in the first few months where I didn't even get a bathroom break, or eat, until my husband came home at lunch, I literally could not set her down for 1 second without a meltdown, I lived without a shirt because she nursed around the clock, couldn't leave her with anyone because she'd just cry the whole time, until the last few weeks, she would not nap without being held, she has always been very wiggly and tense, and many more high-needs traits. We recently found out a lot of it was due to tongue tie and lip tie which gave her acid reflux and made her very uncomfortable and hungry all the time. We recently had it corrected, and now she's a different baby. I read that a baby called "high needs" often is tongue tied, and it was true for us.

@Mrs.M57: hehe yep! he was busting out of the swaddles in the hospital, absolutely hated being wrapped up

There's a thunderstorm going on right now, it's 3:17am, and DS is dancing in his crib, babbling and yelling - not crying - just partying away, haha

Both my babies! Toddler Girl was more fussy and Wonder Baby is more spirited, but they both feel like so much more work than all the other babies I know.

They're also way more alert and interactive, which is pretty awesome.

Yes!!! We have gone to attachment parenting because he is so high needs. We cosleep and babywearing and breastfeed. It's been crazy but I don't know that I would change it. I just wish I had known earlier.

DS isn't fussy but he's definitely all action all the time. He's very spirited and no, I never sleep, haha
He doesn't want to miss anything, he's not a cuddler. I'm glad I'm an active energetic person because this kid does not stop. My mom said I was the same way as a baby.
Sometimes I wish he would just sit with me and snuggle and maybe let me sleep an extra hour once in a while but I love him for who he is. :)

I have been trying to find the words to express my DD, because from the beginning this little girl has thrown me for a loop. She is wonderful and I love her more than anything, but to say she has been a challenge is an understatement. I worked with infants and toddlers everyday in my job, and thought that I knew at least the basics of caring for an infant, but still DD surprised me every step of the way with her intense reactions and needs. My pediatrician mentioned something about her being intense and "a high need baby" so after doing research, I found the perfect description and information about her personality type here:
http://www.askdrsears.com/?q=topics/fussy-baby/high-need-baby/12-features-high-need-baby

It has definitely been helpful to know, although I'm still struggling with how to handle certain things, especially sleep!
Anyone else have a particularly tough baby or toddler?
