Love our Kelty frame carrier. My toddler won't stand for it any more, and it breaks my heart.

We found an Evenflo Trooper at a second hand kids store. It works well, my husband wears it for hikes and I wear it when I get called in for work emergencies. He usually falls asleep in it pretty quickly.

I'd recommend the osprey too. We demo'd them at outdoor retailers last year.

@Silva: Yeah, I think it's in the $120 range on Amazon, and I paid about $50 for it? But we use it a lot.

@winniebee: wow, the kokopax one has a really small profile- you use it for longer day hikes without issue?

We have the Chicco Smart Support Backpack (I got it on NBD). I've actually never had a chance to wear it because DH or my FIL immediately grab it when we go somewhere with it. He LOVES it. Says the weight is very well balanced (we have an almost 25lb 1 year old)...he says he doesn't feel like he's carrying around all of the extra weight.

I really like that it can unfold so you can set it on the ground like a chair (super handy when putting him in and out of it). And E LOVES it.

So, we have 2 and live in Taos, NM where we have been hiking at least once a weekend (ranging from 2 hours to 4 hours).

We have a larger Deuter backpack which has good storage capacity in addition to being good for a toddler. But, T prefers our Kokopax Classic - its smaller but also a frame carrier, but more light weight and much more compact than the Deuter. It has virtually no storage capacity (but you can tie a few toys to it and store keys). He's napped in both but seems much more comfortable in the Kokopax. He's 15 months but on the smaller side - maybe 30 inches and 21 lbs?

Both unfold into chairs on the ground. I think the Deuter would be better for serious backpacking.

The Osprey Poco is amazing! We have the premium one, but there are other versions with less bells and whistles that I am sure are equally wonderful. LO is in it in my profile picture.

I'm in the market for a frame back pack baby carrier...what do you call them, anyway?
I will buy it used but there are a ton for sale around here.

We just do day hikes, but some are strenuous. No real need for a lot of storage capacity, but lightweight and comfortable are very important.
