@matador84: I think this depends on the definition of EBF. I think the true definition is nothing except for breastmilk. Most people introduce solids at 6 months so technically the baby is on BM+solids. I still consider it EBF because it is exclusive BM for milk (no formula or other milks).

@runsyellowlites: Yes, I think the hardest was my 5/6 year old nieces. The understood that I was feeding the baby, giving her milk and she didn't need a bottle. I think I just used a statement like "Yes the milk comes from my breasts, that is what mom's breast are for".

@Thehistoryofus: Me too! It was actually VERY awkward for me b/c my SIL came over with her kiddos and then went outside with DH to look at something.... I go to start nursing P (which I always nurse like I do in public since I have G here) and she asks me what I'm doing, how I'm feeding P, etc.

People are weird about what knowledge/information is given to their kids. I really stammered at what to say b/c I didn't know how comfortable my SIL was about her kids knowing the anatomy/function/etc. =/

Wow. Last Friday, my parents watched our LOs while DH and I were at work. When they were packing the diaper bag to meet us for dinner, my dad asked if he needed to pack a bottle. My mom told him no because they were taking "the cow", apparently it took my dad a few minutes to figure out that because they were meeting up with me he didn't need to take a bottle.

this is so interesting! i recently read less than 1% of women continue to EBF after 6 months which i have a hard time believing.

but...people are so naive about breastfeeding, so maybe i should be surprised!

I've gotten that at airports before. The security guy kept asking me if I was sure I didn't have any liquids and I kept insisting I didn't. He then asked me how my baby was going to eat and told me she's going to get really hungry!

Last time I traveled without my baby I had a crowd of older women crowded around me in the bathroom as I pumped. I guess they had never seen a pump before. So awkward!

haha yes I have recently encountered this idea that bfing is for the first little bit and then you "graduate" to bottles, then to solids. ummmm.... what? I mean, in my life as a WOHM bottles are inevitable but still!

that was my MIL. everytime we went to her house she'd say, "uck, you're still breastfeeding?!"
um yeah, long as I can, lady.
and she started this at like 3 months. It surprised me because she's 81 and moved to the US in 1962 from Holland.

My mother breastfed and thought pumps were crazy, but understood because I went back to with at 7 weeks. Everyone I know around here exclusively breastfeeds.

Oh my stars. I get those looks everyone I visit my hometown. People gave me strange looks when we visited at 4.5 months and I was nursing, even stranger at 7 months, and I don't know anyone from my hometown that still nursed at 9 months. I want to just spout off BFing info, but unless they're of childbearing age, it's just not worth it.

I was at church talking to this lady about the baby and getting ready, etc, and she asked me if I had enough bottles.
I replied "Well I really don't need more than one or two since I'm only using them for emergencies, so yeah."
She looked at me weird and said "What do you mean, how are you going to feed the baby?" I said "I'm exclusively breastfeeding."
She looked to incredibly confused. "Yeah, but what will you give the baby the milk with?" "Um... my breasts."
"Oh! Ok. But what about when it's older, like in a couple of months?!"
"Um... still my breasts. As long as it needs milk it will be breastfed."

*cue look of shock and horror*
