I've had some hip pain, I'm 3wks pp. I see a chiropractor regularly & it has helped a ton. The first week was terrible...walking and getting out of bed made me miserable. I also got a post partum massage and it's made a huge difference for me.

My pelvis was so out of whack after I birthed my babe that I couldn't walk for a week! I did go to the chiro for it and that helped a good bit, I think, but also just time. I don't think I was back to feeling normal until at least 2 months pp. Laying on my back really helped me sleep (side was the worst & couldn't do stomach bc it hurt my boobs). My doctor told me to just take it easy: walk some to get the blood flowing to the pelvic area, but don't overdo it. Allowing your body some time to rest and recover, I think, is really important after giving birth.

@blackbird: that's good to hear. I'm waiting on more intense exercise until after my 6 week appt (more because I have a tendency to over-do it and want to give myself plenty of rest/recovery time), so hopefully after I get more active again it will resolve itself.

Mine were in my hip flexors and lower abs. Anytime I sat for more than an hour, it ached and throbbed. Didn't matter if my legs were propped or not. My chiropractor said it was the relaxin and that it would just take time. I started barre classes less than a week ago, and I kid you not, I haven't had a LICK of that pain since-I was just marveling to DH about it. Maybe it's forcing all my ligaments to tighten up and reactivate? I don't know, but it's GONE and I am elated. Yoga could definitely help!

Eta: a GOOD chiro is hard to find! I've seen many quacks before I found a great one!

@runsyellowlites: thanks! I'm glad you had such a positive chiro experience. I think a lot of them are quacks....to be really blunt, but I know that there are some who really help a lot of people. I think there is a chiropractor in the same office as my doctor, so I can ask if they suggest PT or the chiro for this particular issue...but hopefully it goes away on its own. I didn't have much pain during pregnancy, so this is new. I just want to start running again and am nervous about how difficult it might be..

@Silva: I wasn't a chiro fan until I hurt my hip & I was still very selective & skeptical of just anyone. Surprisingly the chiro did the same things I had done when I got pt for a neck injury. I think finding a full body health chiro & not just one focused on "bones" is the key. The adjustments really helped through my pregnancy & helped my labor... I was generally okay after delivery but then I slipped & fell on my bum on the stairs and really it still hurts over a year later :(

I hope yours gets better soon & maybe someone at your yoga class will have some tips!

@Silva: I found some comfort laying on my stomach. Laying on my side was the worst!

@Silva: I think that it would be worthwhile to talk to folks at the yoga studio. They may have some good suggestion for stretches that will allow your body to realign itself.

I don't want to scare you, but it took a full 4 months before my hip stopped clicking, but the pain resolved pretty quickly... like maybe 6 weeks at the longest?

Hang in there!

@Mrs. Jacks: I'm not a chiro fan either...how long did yours take to resolve its self? We do have some PT folks at my yoga studio who specialize in postpartum care, would it be worth talking to them?

I'm not a chiropractor fan, but it is all of the ligaments pulling back together. Mine just resolved over time on it's own. I did lots of walking to help.

See a chiropractor stat! We have a lot of relaxin in our systems during pregnancy to prepare our muscles to allow our pelvis to move & open for delivery, sometimes things can really get shifted around & settle "wrong". I had the same pain when my pelvis became misaligned! During the first couple months pp we still have residual relaxin in us & it can make getting adjusted & staying "right" a lot easier! I think all mommas should get adjusted throughout pregnancy & most definitely post partum! I would get in asap... I never got around to it pp & still regret it almost 14 months later (I'll have to get "fixed" next pregnancy).

I have terrible hip pain that radiates down my thighs whenever. I lie down. It lasts for a little while after getting up, but doesn't really hurt during the day.
I co-bed w/ babe and have to lie on my side. It's so painful it keeps me up at times

The pillow between the legs helps some...any other suggestions? I'm almost 5 weeks postpartum, and hoping to start running again soon but am concerned this might be a sign of some misalignment? I am planning. To bring it up at my next drs visit, but wondered if anyone had experienced anything similar...
