I was in the same situation as you, c-section for my first (had a doula) and wanting a VBAC for my second, wondering if I wanted a doula again. I am so glad I ended up hiring one, IMO VBACS are so emotional (in our case for me and hubby) and I needed someone to help me deal with that and who could coach me through. I ended up having a successful VBAC for my second and did it again (without a doula) for my third baby.
Doulas are a great investment, especially for VBACS.

I had the same doula at both of my births. I can't imagine having a baby without her either. Our second baby was quick to come and I mostly laboured by myself at home but on an emotional level I was really glad she was there. She is so calm and confident.

I hired a doula for my first but she ended up not being there for the delivery (long story) and I still managed to have an unmedicated vaginal delivery. I didn't hire one with the #2 and had another unmedicated vaginal birth. I felt like I still remembered quite a bit from my first delivery and DH and the nurses had been a huge help so I knew we could do it without anyone else.

I had a doula for my first birth and had an unmedicated vaginal birth. I'm 7 months into pregnancy #2 and I haven't hired one yet. I think part of me is waiting to see if baby ends up head down or breech. I for sure don't want to spend the money if I would definitely have a c section. I guess I better make up my mind soon.

i feel like for a VBAC, i would want one there more because they are experienced in different positions, encouragement, etc. Where it would be easier (for me) to give up because i would think, "oh, it went this way last time, it's gonna go the same way again."

i had a med-free vaginal no-complications delivery the first time and my doula was of the utmost importance, so i'm going to look for another for this pregnancy because there's no guarantee it's gonna be the same way again!

I'm not bothering to hire one the second time around. I will bring some print cards with me so I don't forget positions and stuff, though!

I feel like you need extra support for a VBAC, since it sometimes requires more support, encouragement, and advocating. But I'm a doula, so I'm biased. ;)

I hired a doula for my first baby. She was helpful, especially since I was nervous and didn't know what to expect. She helped comfort me and gave me lots of encouragement. I tried to have a natural vaginal birth but unfortunately ended up with a C-section. She never made me feel bad about not succeeding with my childbirth goal, and was there to support me through it all.

For my second child, I want to try for a VBAC. I'm not sure if I should hire a doula again, simply because it's not cheap and I'm not sure how much I'll need her. I feel like I remember my labor well, and my husband is more familiar with the process, so he'll be more helpful this time around. However, having a doula could be nice, since it would be an extra person advocating for me and encouraging me.

For those of you who hired a doula for the first baby, did you hire one the second time? If so, did you think it was helpful?
