If we catch them, we don't dole out the repercussions (the professor does), but I've been asked before what the punishment should be. If a student buys a paper online, I think they should fail the assignment with no chance to make it up. Depending on how egregious it is (say, a whole term paper, as opposed to a 500 word response), I think they should automatically fail the entire course, and I would refer them to the University Judiciaries. At least on our campus, they then decide on further punishment.</p> <p>I agree, it's been going on forever, but it's not right. If this happens in my classroom, I am not nice about it.</p> <p>ETA: high school students who do this are really playing with fire, IMO. If you get caught, this kind of thing can prevent you from getting into college.
